• QPR----This was my very first task in Standard Chartered bank. My department has to do this for every quarter for the year. In this case, our clients were other banks and some insurance companies. This report showed our clients how they fared per quarter.

• Industry Risk Assesment Report---Here the bank acts as a “broker” wherein we make a report about our client ((background of the field his business is in, industry outlook (opportunities in the country and situation abroad), a summarized financial report. We also rate the “risk” of the client to possible interested investors.

• SPREADS---Basically, I just input the info needed from using the company’s financial reports (just like QPR) except most of the time, I have to calculate some of the terms there to get what’s needed.

• *This was hard for me at first. Accounting was my worst subject at school but I got better at it in the end.

• DAILY REPORT SUMMARIES---I had to do summaries of the latest reports about the movements of our clients (banks).

• CUSTOMER DUE DILIGENCE---I helped out at another department since their 3rd co-worker was on maternity leave. I figured out how to “check”/stalk on people in case they were wanted terrorists. Also learned how to use SEC register for some info. Was the one who did the necessary filing for employees(outside the bank) to get their salaries approved.

• I also co-conducted an interview on a possible internship candidate. *It really feels nice to be sitting on the other side of that table :P “power tripping*

Question 2• How would you rate your performance, in quantitative and

qualitative terms, preferably based upon certain key result areas.

Performance

Page 9: Summe internship standard chartered bank

Disclaimer:• In some weeks, I didn’t all of those things every single

week, but I rated myself in regards to how well I performed on those tasks as the weeks went by.

• By the end of my stay there..I didn’t want to leave anymore! I regretted not extending and moving to my (now second internship) so I know that I didn’t feel like I was performing poorly. My mood factor is dependent on how well I do stuff

Question 3• What lessons from the European Studies course did you

find most relevant in the work assigned to you?

Page 11: Summe internship standard chartered bank

FINANCE

Page 12: Summe internship standard chartered bank

ACCOUNTING

Page 13: Summe internship standard chartered bank

ECONOMICS

Page 14: Summe internship standard chartered bank

GLOBALIZATION

Page 15: Summe internship standard chartered bank

• I added “globalization” because in European Studies we usually talk about the importance of events happening abroad. In my industry outlook reports, I had to research and input so many stuff that happened in different parts of the world because they affect our economy in so many ways that I never imagined. Like the fact that the earthquakes in Japan earlier this year impacted the trading of electronic parts between our countries.

MY “WELL”

Page 31: Summe internship standard chartered bank

MY FAVORITE PLACE IN THE OFFICE

Page 32: Summe internship standard chartered bank

• The work environment there was really great! Everything looks so bright and orderly. Since there’s no divisions between people you’re forced to do your work. At the same time, people there know how to have fun. That’s why I liked it there, my motto for them would be something like this : Play hard, Work harder. Overtime is normal for them-even all nighters. That doesn’t stop them from eating out like at greenbelt for lunch

Question 7• What positive values did you learn from the company’s

management approach? Any lasting ties gained from interpersonal relationships with co-workers?

Page 34: Summe internship standard chartered bank

MY BOSS

Page 35: Summe internship standard chartered bank

MY BOSS: Sir Chris• He is the nicest person I have ever met. He’s the type of

boss that rules not through fear but like-ability. The people in my department have never complained about their workload or the boss (unlike other depts). He’s usually calm and collected and I want to be just like that.

Page 36: Summe internship standard chartered bank

CO-WORKERS• Since I was the only lone intern in the entire floor (until like

the last 3 days) I became friends with my co-workers. I never once hung out with the other interns and I never regretted that. I became close with the “younger set” from the different departments and I still intend to continue those relationships. Even though am interning in a different company/building, I still meet up with them.

Question 8• What negative aspects, if any, did you find in your work?

Any intervention you made to eliminate or mitigate those negative aspects?

Page 38: Summe internship standard chartered bank
Page 39: Summe internship standard chartered bank

Question 9• How do you compare the work that you did with those of

your classmates?

Page 40: Summe internship standard chartered bank

• The big difference for me is the fact that I’ve never met or even contacted a client. My department’s clients are all corporations and other banks and my work is more of reports and analytical research.

• My work was more “finance” compared to the others who did marketing, international relations, teaching etc.
