Coal Reserves of India

As per the latest National Inventory on Indian Coal Resources published by Geological Survey of India, the total coal resources assessed in the country stand at 301.56 Billion Tonnes as on 01.04.2014. This was stated by Sh. Piyush Goyal, (Minister of state for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.

The Minister further stated that there are sufficient coal resources to meet the demand of Power Sector for a considerable period of time.

Coal block allocation is a continuous process. Recently 17 Coal blocks (14 for power generation and 3 for mining corporation) have been allotted under government dispensation, the Minister added.
