Guide to Savings on Textbooks!
Winston
Ask your instructor before schools starts Ask your friends who have taken the
class before
Determine whether or not you really need textbook(s) for your class!
Tips #1: Friends
Ask your friends if they have the textbook(s) as they might have taken the class before
Check to see if any of your friends are interested in sharing a textbook if they are taking the same class as you
Tip #2: Check your school library
Instructors sometimes reserve a few copies of their course's book at the library, which you may be able to check out short-term
You might find old editions of textbooks that you can use
Tip #3: Used booksDon’t ever buy brand new textbooks unless you have absolutely no choice
Don’t buy your textbooks at your school’s bookstore-they are usually the most expensive
Check online stores-Amazon, Ebay, ISBN.nu - to do comparison shopping
Tip #4: Go digital
Ditch the heavy hardcover for an electronic book-much cheaper
With e-books, you can also buy only chapters that you need-visit iChapter
Tips #5: Textbook Rentals
Could save between 50%-80% off the list price-remember this is the saving when compared to a brand new textbook. However compared to used books, the saving is probably only up to 30% at best
Always check out the return policy-you might need to pay $25 penalty for returning late and might have to pay the full price if you don’t return the book two weeks after the due date
