Evaluation – Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

___________________________________________________________________

I would say that the audience for my media product would be teenagers and young adults. I would say that the average age of the audience would be around the age of 15 however it may also interest some older viewers depending on their interests.

The demographic categories of the audience of my media profit would be based around age and gender. The audience is most likely to be young teenagers however I believe that both genders may share an interest in my product due to the psychological storyline. The psychographic profile of my product is people that are interested in crime and films that have a confusing or psychological plot.

Is there more than one audience?

I believe that my media product has more than audience. The majority of films often have more than one particular audience. After discussing this with my group, we came to the conclusion that as well as targeting teenagers as an audience, we also target some older viewers. This is due to some of the conventions and aspects that are involved in our opening sequence.

The use of sound in our media product fits our target audience well. At the start of our sequence it shows our young female actress running through a forest with headphones in. The sound used here is a modern party song which fits the kind of music that your average teenager would listen too. This shows that the sound used fits the age group of our audience.

The use of editing also fits the audience of our media product. In one of the shots used in our sequence it showed an almost un-realistic ghost effect being used to represent the idea that the detective could not see our young female character. The use of this fits our audience of people who are interested in psychological films and plots as it is seen as ‘supernatural’ and ‘unexplainable’.

The use of Mise-en-scene is also suited to the audience of our product. Above shows an image of the ‘Missing poster’ used in our sequence. This is a prop that is significant throughout our product. This represents our audience as it creates excitement for the viewer and would allow younger people to be more engaged and interested in wanting to continue watching to find out the outcome of the plot. The use of costume that our young girl is wearing also represents our audience. The female character is seen wearing leggings and a black t-shirt with Nike air max trainers. These trainers are extremely popular in today’s society therefore this would allow more younger viewers to show an interest in the sequence.
