Year 9 Music Work Instructions
Hi everyone! You will see that there are 3 uploaded pdfs labelled like this:
1 Elements of Music Knowledge Organiser
2 Listening List
3 Music Theory Work Book
This is how you should use each of the resources:
1 Elements of Music Knowledge Organiser
Use this knowledge organiser to help you with the ‘2 Listening List’. You could make flashcards to help you
remember each part of the knowledge organiser. To do this, draw the symbol / picture on the front of a
flashcard, and write the musical word on the back. This will help you to remember key words for when you
return to school
2 Listening List
Complete two pages per week of the listening project. Y
You will need to use Youtube / Spotify to listen to each piece.
Instructions on how to use the listening list are on the front page of the ‘Listening List’ pdf.
You will need to use the ‘1 Elements of Music Knowledge Organiser’ and the internet to help you answer the
questions about each piece. You can do this in a notebook / on paper.
Advice = as well as commenting on the musical elements used in each piece, make a note of which pieces you
like and why. You may find that you prefer faster pieces to slow pieces, or orchestral music to solo pieces.
Understanding the types of music you do and do not like will help you to find new pieces of music to listen to.
3 Music Theory Work Book
This work book will help you to remember the work we have been doing in class. Some of the pages in this
booklet include brand new information that you will not have seen before. Try your best to complete as much
of the work book as you can over the coming weeks. I would recommend completing 2 pages a week.
REMEMBER! Listen to as much music as you can for fun while you have the time!
If you have an instrument at home, play and practise as much as you can – you could:
Organise a show for your family
Teach someone at home how to play the instrument you have
See you all soon – Miss. Barnes
This booklet is to help you to prepare for the Listening exam for
GCSE Music. It is worth 40% of your course.
You can search for each of the pieces on Youtube / Spotify for free.
Listen to each of the pieces in the table. Use plain paper to make
comments on each of the pieces. For each piece, you should
comment on the:
Dynamics
Rhythm
Structure
Metre
Melody
Instrumentation
Tonality
Texture
Harmony
You can use the Knowledge organiser to help you with making comments.
