Women of the Moose News
Hi Everybody:
Christmas in July was a hit! Thanks to eve-
ryone who attended and we hope you had a good
time. We plan to make this an annual event.
Christmas dinner was the best – thanks Lois!! DJ
Amber played and sang Karoake – some brave indi-
viduals also got up and sang – they all did fantastic.
Don’t forget about our Garage Sale – it will
be held on Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 am until
2:00 pm – we need donations, along with help on the
day of the sale. Anything that you can do will be
greatly appreciated.
The sign-up sheet is up for our Bean Bag
Toss Tournament that will be held on Saturday,
August 13th starting at 1:00 in the afternoon. Two-
man teams will be drawn on the day of the event.
Get your throwing arm ready and sign-up.
New Members/Sponsors: If you haven’t
attended new member orientation yet, please let
me know if you can attend on Monday, August 8th at
7:00 pm (881-8950). If you’re not able to attend
in the evening, please let me know so that we can
schedule a different day/time for orientation.
As you know, our meetings are every 2nd
and 4th Monday of the month – please join us – we’d
like to hear your ideas and welcome your sugges-
tions. Also, we’re always looking for new members
– encourage family and friends to join – a member-
ship is only $45, and remember, if you sponsor 2
new members, your dues are paid for next year.

Youth Awareness
For more than 20 years, the Loyal Or-
der of Moose has organized high school stu-
dents into a highly effective “Speakers Bureau”
with the goal of educating preschool and ele-
mentary school children on a variety of topics.
These topics include drug and alcohol abuse,
child abuse, stranger danger, bullying, peer
pressure, healthy habits and nutrition. These
are known as “Kids Talks”.
The NE Lodge is looking for 2 high
school students to attend a 2 day Moose Asso-
ciation Student Congress to be held this Octo-
ber or November. At this congress the stu-
dents will be instructed on how to prepare a
program to present to the kids.
On their return home they will pick a
topic and develop a “Kids Talk” presentation.
After your presentation is complete, they are
asked to speak to 3 groups of young children
between 4-9 years old. Good locations to pre-
sent your talks are scouting units, elementary
schools, Sunday school classes, boys and girls
clubs, YMCA youth programs and so on.
Now hear is the good part, there is no
cost to the student for attending.

“Croosen the Moose”
On June 28th, we held our annual
“Moose Croose” car show. There were
some dark clouds and a few showers
to the south, but it stayed dry all day
long at thye lodge. Out car count was
down a little because of the weather,
but the quality of the attendees was
super.
Well lets get right down to it and an-
nounce the winners of the trophies,
door prizes and raffles. The Best of
Show motorcycle was won by Gene
Hubbard with his custom Honda Gold-
wing trike. The Lodges choice trophy
went to Harold Hinkler for his marvel-
ous 1949 Chevy pickup truck and Ste-
ve Wike won Best of Show with his
immaculate 1973 Dodge Challenger.
All the show car owners had a chance
to win a few door prizes. The first
door prize, 2 folding chairs, went to
Kathy Kujawa. Robert Wozniak took
home two tool bags and a pair of utili-
ty knives went to Ken Nagel. Now for
the raffles. The stainless Kenmore gas
grill was won by Paula Carriss. Happy
grillin’ Paula. Kim Neff was the winner
of the $300 gas card. Free gas is al-
ways very good. That leaves the
50/50, and the winner was Debbie
Quandt.
We grilled up 200 half chicken plus all
the fixins. We sold them all. Thanks to
Hank and Lois Orlowski and their
crews for all the great food.
I would also like to thank all the other
lodge members who helped this event
come off without a hitch. I know fun
was had by all. See you next year!

Youth Awareness continued–
All transportation, food and lodging is
paid for by the lodge. There will also be an
evening of fun when you arrive, a dance and piz-
za party. All student speakers will be eligible to
receive 1 of 5 scholarships to be awarded. The
awards are: 1st place - $12,000, 2nd place -
$8,000, 3rd place - $5,000, 4th place - $3,000
and 5th place - $2,000.
The best part of participating in the
Youth Awareness program is the chance stu-
dents have to inspire young children and to have
a positive impact on young lives. To date the
student speakers have reached an audience of
more than 700,000 young children. If even one
child has chosen a better path in life, the pro-
gram is a success. Call 814-434-6300 for more
information. Thank you, Allen Matters
