A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy apostles Parish Family,
This weekend is the Feast of the Holy Family,
which is an important weekend to emphasize in
our present culture. We have lost and are
losing so many school-aged families in our
Catholic parishes. Ten percent of the U.S. popu-
lation declared themselves as ex-Catholics
recently and Mass attendance has dropped in
our diocese by one-third to one-half in parishes
without Spanish-speaking Masses. We have
lost 600 English-speaking people weekly in the
past 10 years. We as a staff and councils are
looking and listening to this phenomena.
We have started Family Faith Formation to
include the whole family in the process. This
has been extremely successful this fall.
Participants have found it more effective and
enjoy coming as an entire family. It has allowed
three times the amount of fathers to participate.
It also shows us that if we prepare more for a
fewer number of sessions, we are more effective.
Secondly, every young parent with kids under
five has told me they fear bringing their chil-
dren to Mass because they will get “the look” if
their children act up at Mass. People say that it
does not happen, but I have had every type of
person including children of the original 400
parish members say that this has happened to
them. We need to work on this as a priority!
I know one family here with children who has
asked me twice about the health of an older
parishioner who has been good to their children.
I know we have people who are very welcom-
ing, but we need to make it a special effort to
be felt by all and not a few. Please reach out to
our young families in a helpful way to welcome
their children on good days and tough ones.
Finally, we are working on getting our 25 to
40-year-olds more involved in leadership. We
have some amazing ones who have grown up
here and now we need to let them assume
their adult roles. We have invested for many
years in youth ministry, which is great, so now
we need to let them do what we trained them
for. They are able to contribute a lot.
We are very blessed and very young, but we
only have 600 of 1800 school-aged children
engaged in some religious education effort and
only 600 of 25 to 40 year olds engaged in any
parish activity. Here is where we can grow from
within. Please pray on this as we move through
the Year of Mercy and offer a hand to those
that are part of us, but not active.
Have a Blessed Week! Father Paul

Help with Small Things Mean a Lot Some times, the simplest things we take for granted are
the very things our neediest neighbors need to live with
dignity. Recently, Vincentians reached out to assist an old-
er gentleman get to his job interview by providing a tank of
gas and a quart of motor oil for his car. A haircut complet-
ed his wish list as he prepared to enter the work force again.
A second neighbor in need asked for help in purchasing
inexpensive materials so he could make a shelf for his
food; his very small apartment had no cupboards or built-
in shelves. Your donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society
help the neediest among us all year long. The second is
this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no
other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31
Paul Hillebrand in Concert at Holy Apostles Catholic singer and composer Paul Hillebrand will return to
Holy Apostles for a concert on Sunday,

baritone voice, inspired music and engag-
ing personality will make for a lively and
spirit-filled concert experience. Tickets
are $10 and are available for purchase
in the Parish Office or in Holy Apostles
Religious Goods. Don’t miss this exciting
opportunity!
