EVENT AT LE BOURGET

One of WIA's key strategic goals is to position the organization to implement its mission globally. We are honored to announce that WIA Japan and WIA Mexico have been officially established. WIA Mexico and WIA Japan join WIA's strong global network with WIA Europe, WIA Canada and WIA South Africa.
When asked about her passion for helping WIA to expand their global networks, WIA Chair Shelli Brunswick said that, "In space, there are no glass ceilings. Women in Aerospace is committed to fostering the growth of our industry by empowering and inspiring women around the world.“ The formal announcement ceremony has held at the Inaugural Women's Global Gathering, taking place at the Space Foundation's 33rd Space Symposium.
Expanding WIA's Global Networks continues to be a priority for WIA. The application process for additional global networks will be held between August and October of each year. The networks that qualify and are approved by WIA's Board of Directors will be announced annually.
Through global networks, WIA have the ability to build a
collaborative environment where men and women from
all countries can connect and make a difference.
The aerospace industry is truly a global partnership.
WIA is pleased to be at the forefront of this movement.

As any professional will tell you, interpersonal connections form the
very cornerstone of a successful and fulfilling career. Among WIA-Europe’s goals is building our members’ careers through our network, and what better network to nurture than the one you are already in? Our local groups are strong, ever-growing and diverging units that meet regularly for networking events, trainings and lectures. These events include professional trainings and workshops with qualified trainers and coaches, company visits, mentoring evenings or
simply chatting over drinks and dinner. All local groups are free to organise a programme that matches the expectations of the local WIA community. Feel free to suggest your ideas and play an active role in creating the events you most want to see happen! Do you have any questions or would you like to be put on the list for a local group, or propose to start one in your area? Let us know!

April 4 – Online event ‘Mission to Mars’
On April 4th, WIA-Europe local group UK organized the online event
‘Mission to Mars’. QinetiQ’s Dr. Mamatha Maheshwarappa talked about
her recent experience as commander of MDRS Crew 174 at the Mars
Desert Research Station!
About the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), owned and operated
by the Mars Society, is a full-scale analog facility in Utah that supports
Earth-based research in pursuit of the technology, operations, and
science required for human space exploration. The purpose of the
MDRS project is to develop the key knowledge required to prepare for
human exploration of Mars. It aims to develop field tactics based on
environmental constraints (e.g. being required to work in space suits), to
test habitat design features and tools, and to assess crew selection
protocols. Although much warmer than Mars, the desert location was
selected because of its remoteness and Mars-like terrain.
