AS IF IT WEREN’T hard enough tofind a toothpaste or shampoo youlike, there is reason to look deeper.Alas, ingredient lists on personal-care products can be an unwieldychecklist of chemical jargon. Butknowing what to look for (and whatto avoid) can be very useful. TheEnvironmental Working Group, which rates such products on itswebsite, ewg.org, offers these ba-sics about the following labels:
Fragrance. This non-specificterm appears on many labels butcan include harmful or allergy-in-ducing ingredients. To avoid these, look for labels that instead namespecific natural fragrances (laven-der, bergamot, lemongrass).
Sunscreen. It’s not all about the
SPF. Chemicals such as oxyben-zone and retinyl palmitate cancause more harm than good. Optfor products with zinc oxide, titani-um dioxide or avobenzone at 3%.
Parabens. These chemicals —propyl-, isopropyl-, buytl- and isobutyl-parabens — are associatedwith endocrine, reproductive anddevelopmental problems. Look for“paraben-free” on labels.
Triclosan or triclocarban. These antimicrobial pesti-cides, which often arefound in soaps, toothpaste anddeodorant, havebeen linked toliver problems.

Avoid self-ascribed attributes.Saying you’re hardworking anddedicated means nothing. Instead, give specific examples of your attri-butes and substantiate them.
Target employers’ needs. Zeroin on what they say they’re lookingfor. If a company says it wantssomeone with five years of experi-ence, make sure the first item onyour résumé addresses that need.
Proofread, proofread. Esti-mates hold that 20% of résuméshave typos. “I once read a résuméwhere someone talked about ‘ruin-ing’ an eight-person team instead of‘running’ it,” Karsh says. 6

THE JOB MARKET is tough, andmistakes on a résumé can make itall the more difficult. Make yourrésumé shine by avoiding thesecommon mistakes:
Stress your accomplishments.Don’t just write about your duties.Instead, document how your skillshave helped achieve somethingmeasurable, such as increasedsales or improved customer ser-vice. “Write from the perspectiveof the person reading your résumé,
not your own,” says Brad Karsh, presi-dent of JobBound, a Chicago careercounseling company.
Stick with the here and now. Em-phasize recent accomplishments and re-sponsibilities as opposed to those in thepast. “Your most recent job can have 12

About a week later I was inIdaho, steelhead fishing with myIdaho, steelhead fishing with myIdaho, steelhead fishing with mydad — and I get a call.dad — and I get a call.dad — and I get a call.
It’s my friend, whoasked me if I was seriousabout the job. He said heabout the job. He said heabout the job. 2 THE TIMINGWASRIGHT
Family comes first. Mystepdaughter, Tallulah, is
a senior in high school, and I want-ed to be there for her rather thanon a set in Michigan or Mexico orAustralia.
It wasn’t so much that I wasworried I’d miss onething in particular —like college applica-tions or prom ormeeting with teach-ers. It’s about beingavailable for every-thing. I’ve missedenough and I don’twant to be absent for
anything else. I just want to behome at night with my wife [DemiMoore] and family.
When I really broke down thedecision to take the job, therewere so many rewards and fewrisks — except maybe one: I wasstepping into a media frenzy. ButI figured I could temper that a bitby keeping the lines of communi-cation open with my social mediapresence. I can always set therecord straight.
½THE THRILLOFTHEUNKNOWN
At the end of the day,I took this job because I
would be working with the best inthe business. Chuck Lorre has ahuge track record of success. Iwas going to bust my butt and mygut told me he’d do the same.
It is scary as hell, but how couldI say no? I thrive off of things thatscare the hell out of me. 6

CRACKING your knucklescauses arthritis — you
probably know that’s an oldwives’ tale. There’s no proof ev-ery pop puts you a step closer toarthritis — specifically osteoar-thritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) de-velops when the cartilage thatcushions the ends of the
bones inyour jointswears down.OA is themost com-
mon form of arthritis, butthere’s no cure, so the more youknow, the better. Here are twomore misconceptions about OA:Myth: Arthritis is a natural
part of aging. Yes, it usuallyappears after age 45, and theolder you are, the more wearand tear you have. But noteveryone gets osteoarthritis;obesity is also a major factor.Myth: Meds are the first
line of treatment. Accordingto the Arthritis Foundation, simply moving your body is thebest medicine for OA. Gentleexercises, like walking or swim-ming, help strengthen musclesand bones, increase flexibilityand make joints more stable. 6

“...one of the mostproductive charities—
dollar for deed—in the world.”
—The New York Times
According to the U.S. Government, women should take sufficient levels of folic acid (400 micrograms/day) during pregnancy to help prevent neural tubedefects and reduce the risk for cleft lip and palate. When folic acid is taken one month before conception and throughout the first trimester, it has beenproven to reduce the risk for neural tube defects by 50 to 70 per cent. Be sure to receive proper prenatal care, quit smoking and drinking alcohol and followyour health care provider’s guidelines for foods to avoid during pregnancy. Foods to avoid may include raw or undercooked seafood, beef, pork or poultry;delicatessen meats; fish that contain high levels of mercury; smoked seafood; fish exposed to industrial pollutants; raw shellfish or eggs; soft cheeses;unpasteurized milk; pâté; caffeine; and unwashed vegetables. I know why millions ofAmericans are saving on theirheating bills with the Eden-PURE® Infrared PortableHeater.
And now you can save upto $192, our lowest pricesever on the new 2012 Eden-PURE® Personal Heater, thefinest portable heater in theworld.
For over 30 years as yourhome improvement televisionhost, I have reviewed and ex-perienced thousands of prod-ucts. I have an EdenPURE®
in my Massachusetts homeand found it to be a very safeand reliable source of portableheat. This is one of those fewcomfort investments I can rec-ommend for your home thatwill truly pay dividends.
We all know heating costsare expected to remain atrecord levels. The cost of heat-ing our homes will continue tobe a significant burden on thefamily budget. The Eden-PURE® can cut your heatingbills, pay for itself in a matterof weeks, and then start puttinga great deal of extra money inyour pocket after that.
With over one million sat-isfied customers around theworld, the new EdenPURE®
heats better, faster, savesmore on heating bills, andruns almost silent.
A major cause of residen-tial fires in the United Statesis portable heaters. The choiceof fire and safety profession-als everywhere, the Eden-PURE® has no exposed heat-ing elements that can cause afire. The outside of the Eden-PURE® only gets warm to thetouch so that it will not burnchildren or pets. And your petmay be just like my dog whohas reserved a favorite spotnear the EdenPURE®.
Accept no imitations. The EdenPURE® can also helpyou feel better. Unlike Eden-PURE® imitators, it will not re-duce humidity or oxygen in theroom. These imitators use ce-
ramic plates instead of ourpatented copper. Cheap ceram-ic plates reduce humidity, dryout your sinuses and make yourskin dry. With other heatingsources, you'll notice that youget sleepy when the heat comeson because they are burning upoxygen.
The advanced space-ageEdenPURE® also heats theroom evenly, wall to wall andfloor to ceiling. Other heatingsources heat rooms unevenlywith most of the heat concen-trated high and to the center ofthe room. And as you know, portable heaters only heat anarea a few feet around theheater. With the EdenPURE®,the temperature will not varyin any part of the room.
How can a person cuttheir heating bill with theEdenPURE®? First, the Eden-PURE® uses less energy to cre-ate heat than many othersources, but that is just part ofwhy it will cut a person’s heat-ing bill. The EdenPURE® willheat a room in minutes. Youwill immediately notice thedifference! Therefore, you canturn the heat down in your
house to as low as 50 degrees, but the room you are occupy-ing , which has the Eden-PURE®, will be warm andcomfortable.
Your EdenPURE® easilymoves from room to room.Using zone heating keeps youcomfortable and reduces yourheating bills. This can drasti-
cally cut heating bills; in someinstances, the savings may besubstantial.
The EdenPURE® will payfor itself in weeks. It willkeep a great deal of extramoney in a user’s pocket. Be-cause of today’s spiraling gas, oil, propane, and other energycosts, the EdenPURE® will pro-vide even greater savings astime goes by.
The EdenPURE® PersonalHeater comes with a compre-hensive three year warrantyand a 60-day, no questionsasked, satisfaction guarantee –EdenPURE® will even pay for
the return shipping. There isabsolutely no risk. And Eden-PURE® is the only portableheater with a National ServiceNetwork.
