Intention
• Develop a TEACHING AGENDA by setting instructional goals (economic content and other skills) and use classroom time, assignments, and beyond classroom activities to achieve goals
• Recognize good teaching requires effort (time!)– Content– Delivery– Administration– Beyond course

Organization
• Website• Syllabus• Classroom time• Assignments• Discuss expectations
Respect
• Treat students as valued individuals• Match expectations• Administer course efficiently• Carefully select the textbook • Make yourself available• Maintain leadership
Engage Students in Classroom - Rules
• Activities must be DIRECTLY on topic– Explain why you are doing it– Review how activity relates to material
• Never make a student look foolish
Engage Students in Classroom - Ideas• Delivery of material• Props• Music• Case studies and real world examples• Ask questions• Games and experiments• In class team projects• In class readings• In class writing assignments
Beyond the Classroom
• Carefully select these activities to meet goals• Level of involvement can vary• My activities– Club advising or participation– Study abroad program
