  • Well, I went to the bayou just last night

    There was no moon,

    but the stars were bright

    Put a big long hook

    on a big long pole

    And I pulled Mr. Crawfish

    out of his hole

~Crawfish by Ben Weisman / Fred Wise

Rhode Island born Ben Weisman wrote over 50 songs for Elvis, more than any other songwriter. Some of his best are those written for Elvis’ movies: “Crawfish” from King Creole, “Follow That Dream” from the movie of the same name, “Rock-a-Hula Baby” from Blue Hawaii, “I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell” from Wild in the Country and “Got a Lot o' Livin' to Do” from Loving You. Later in his career, Weisman had a recurring role on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless as a pianist in the Club Allegro. Elvis’s nickname for Weisman was “the mad professor.”
