If you wanted to know more about Miss Evans, well here is the place to

look! When Miss Evans was a kid, her favorite subject was Social Studies, and it’s

her favorite subject to teach now. Two of Miss Evans’s favorite teachers were: her

2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Kempter, because she was patient and kind. Her other

favorite teacher was her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Blackwell, because she could

make ANYONE feel important. When she was a kid, she didn’t always want to be a

teacher; she wanted to be a veterinarian because she loves animals.

Another one of our new teachers is Miss Larkin. She is our Spanish teacher

for Kindergarten to eighth grade. Before Miss Larkin was a teacher, she worked in

a bank to put herself through school. Miss Larkin says, “I became a teacher to

make a difference.” When she was a girl, she studied ballet and become a

ballerina. Miss Larkin also teaches French along with Spanish. Her favorite activity

outside of school is reading books. Welcome to our school!

The Art MobileThe Art Mobile

This year’s Art Mobile was an educational and interesting experience for all

grades! This year the theme was how science/plants and art meet together. Mrs.

DeGraw gave us her opinion on it. She said,

“I thought it was unique compared to all

the other years because it integrated

science with art and how they really are similar.” Bucks County Community

College is doing a project to restore a field in Tyler State Park. The

theme includes how pollinators accidently pollinate a flower. You can do anything

from look at dandelion fuzz under a microscope to play with pollinator finger

puppets. This year’s art mobile helped kids become aware of the environment. A

student said, "I thought it was really good, and I thought it was interesting. You

don’t really pay attention to details on things like seeds, flowers, and butterflies. It

was a very knowledgeable class period.” Another student said, “I liked it and I

thought it was fun to learn about how a bee pollinates flowers.”

Disagreement on Comic books See both of their stories now

Page 4: thesaintandrewschool.com  · Web viewSome of those games included pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating contests, cup stacking and more exciting games. Mr. Murphy had chess

Owen’s side of the argument: There is a big disagreement on comic books. Comics are

way too long and boring. Comic books do not have a reason.

I really do not get comic books. They also never tell you where

to start on a page. They do not say “123” for the

boxes or the word bubbles so I would be reading the

wrong part of the book.

Dominic’s side of the argument: The reason I say I like comic books is because

comic books like Dog Man are very good books.

Dav Pickle is a comic book author and Illustrator; he makes me laugh, and

sometimes he even makes me cry, and he helps me fall asleep when

I lie awake at night. One of the things that I love about comics is that they

have a lot of detail.

FUTURE SPORTS

Page 5: thesaintandrewschool.com  · Web viewSome of those games included pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating contests, cup stacking and more exciting games. Mr. Murphy had chess

What if there were sports where you can use technology? Future sports matter a lot to this world. Sports get you to exercise, and they get you in shape. When you exercise, people get tired and they have to stop, but if technology could do something like make the ground for football more bouncy, that might be an incentive for more to work out on a regular basis!Trust me not everyone is the best shape, but with this certain technology no one will have an excuse not to work out. This idea is possible as every idea is possible!!!!

competition? Well, Saint Andrew CEC’s 2017

Pumpkin Fest is great for people who love both of

those things. This event took place in the Saint

Andrew Catholic School gymnasium on Tuesday,

October 31, 2017.

But these activities didn’t just appear out of

thin air; there was a lot of time, effort,

preparation and dedication put into this

event. I would like to devote part of my

article thanking and writing about the

volunteers who helped to make Pumpkin

Fest this year so spectacular.

First, I would like

to thank our

physical

education teacher here at Saint Andrew, Mr.

Murphy. Mr. Murphy organized lots of very fun

games which I am certain the entire student body

from K to 8th grade of Saint Andrew Catholic

School enjoyed. Some of those games included

pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating

contests, cup stacking and more exciting games.

Mr. Murphy had chess boards enlarged so we could

use Halloween cups to play checkers--I thought it

was a great idea.

So thanks again Mr. Murphy and all the

Pumpkin Fest volunteers for your hard work and

time. Gladly, on behalf of the Saint Andrew Catholic

School student body, I can hereby call the 2017

Pumpkin Fest a success!

This year, it happened on Saturday, October 21. Kids got to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes. They went from car trunk to car trunk collecting candy. It is a good time to hang out with friends. It may just be for school students, but you can bring friends along.

You can see some beautifully decorated trunks. There are also some awesome inflatables inside the gym, so you and your friends can play. Trunk or Treat is a fun activity that you can enjoy with friends and family. You will have lots of fun and collect lots of candy. Well, what are you waiting for? Pick a costume, decorate your trunk and go to Trunk or Treat next October.

microphone. The books are all very good, and you will enjoy many of them.

Saint Andrew Catholic School student said, “I thought book fair was fun. There was a big selection of books and I think everyone enjoyed it.”

Mrs. Felker, our library teacher at the time, said, “We earned about $14,000.00 worth of books. Almost $500.00 in proceeds went to buying books for the school library. For older grades, I would recommend Refugee, and Left Out. For younger grades, Pig the Elf was very popular. This year was shorter than last year, with only four days instead of five. It was awesome and everyone had fun.”

Make sure you check out next year’s Book Fair. You won’t regret it!

Pig races

Do you like fun and exciting racing events? If so, come to our annual pig races, and you will have a lot of fun. Classes participated in a magazine drive to earn money for our school. If your class had 70% or more participation, you win a

Page 11: thesaintandrewschool.com  · Web viewSome of those games included pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating contests, cup stacking and more exciting games. Mr. Murphy had chess

pig. Then, your class votes on what to dress the pig up as. The school votes for best dressed. Who knows, maybe you could win next year.

Classes also raced their pigs. They set up a table and whichever pig fell off the table first won. It may be loud and crazy, but it is a lot of fun. There are a couple races before the big race. First, k-2nd raced their pigs, and whoever won that round moves on to the finals. There are many more races before the big race. Mark your calendars for next year’s pig race; it’ll be a blast!

Christmas festival

Do you love food, games, and music? If so, our Christmas Festival is the right place for you. This event was held on December 3rd at St. Andrew School. In the parking lot, there were a lot of food

trucks. All of the food was great.

Inside, there were raffle baskets. All of them were beautifully decorated and had great prizes inside. You could buy tickets and put your names in to win. Congrats to all who won! There was also a really good band playing in the gym.

The Christmas Festival was really fun, and we hope to do the same thing next year. Be sure to come check out next year’s Christmas Festival because you won’t regret it!

This year we had our annual “Santa Secret Shop” at Saint

Andrew Catholic School. From past years we have had mugs,

jewelry, toys, reindeer food, dog toys and many other items at the

shop. One of the kid’s favorites was binkies. The Santa Secret

Shop is located in the Marian Room and is filled with tables of

things to buy for your family and friends. The shop is complete

with a check out and wrapping station. The shop helps you by

putting labels on the items for a selected category.

Every class goes down to the Marian Room, and they select

their purchases then go back to normal classes. Many students

partake in this activity, while others do not. If you don’t get

anything from the Santa Secret Shop you definitely should

because it is extraordinary to have experienced this amazing

event. You can buy stuff for your family or just buy yourself

something. A student says, “It was amazing how you could get so

many things. I just really loved it, and it was an amazing event. At

some other schools they don’t have it here, and I’m glad we have

Page 14: thesaintandrewschool.com  · Web viewSome of those games included pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating contests, cup stacking and more exciting games. Mr. Murphy had chess

it here.” In our Santa Secret Shop we have new items which are

good because we shouldn’t always have the same thing.

This year we had more Christmas break than we

did last year! From the words of a student, “It was

extraordinary that we had a longer winter break!” The

break was two days longer, but everyone can agree that

the extra days really counted! The break consisted of 1

whole week, 2 weekends, and about half a week. The total

amount of days off was 12. Everyone most likely went

outside to play in the snow, or stayed all cozy inside to

watch a movie or read a book. You could have also played

or used your Christmas presents. Whatever you did on

your extra days, you knew it was worthwhile.

The weekends felt normal, but the weekdays felt

magical. After it was all over, you wish it never ended.

There were some flaws to the extra days. You still have a

Page 15: thesaintandrewschool.com  · Web viewSome of those games included pumpkin bowling, checkers, doughnut eating contests, cup stacking and more exciting games. Mr. Murphy had chess

spelling test that week, you miss your Monday and

Tuesday specials, and after awhile, you miss your friends.

Because of the extra days, we have less snow days built

into the schedule. This means if we have a HUGE snow

storm, that we can end up getting dismissed later in June

than usual. Whatever you think, the extra days were

magical in some way to you.
