Maurers son, Patrick, heard from one of his sis-ters at the crash scene justmoments after the collision.
I got a phone call say-ing they had been in an ac-cident, he said. It waspretty horrendous.

U.S. practice and play gamestogether across the globe.Theyve played in Japan in 2007and France in 2011 and won bothchampionships. Another lifetimegoal for Nathan was to try and outand make the Team USA squad.
However, the team has an agelimit of 16, so Nathan had to bepatient.
So while he waited to growolder, Nathan watched film, spent
hours at the gym training and con-tinued to play with his local team. Finally, last year he was able toapply and try out for the teamamongst 40 other applicants.
Nathan and his dad traveledto Indiana last October for the try-outs and then Nathan had to wait. And wait. And wait.
The next week and a halfwas the longest in my life,Nathan said.
But then the phone rang andhe heard the words he was long-ing to hear.
He made the team.Whats Next?To be part of Team USA,
Nathan is expected to attend train-ing camps every other month andbe willing to travel extensively inpreparation for the World Cup.
All the athletes have to raisetheir own money to cover ex-penses and thats where theMayers multi-family garage salecomes into play. They are hopingto raise nearly $20,000 over thenext few months (already raised$10,000 through other fundrais-
ers) to get Nathan participating inhis dream sport and to continue tocover his medical expenses andmaintain his overall health.
Next summers World Cupsite is yet to be revealed but talkis it could be in Orlando, FL oreven somewhere in Australia.
That information is forth-coming. In the meantime, Nathancontinues to work out, watch filmand play the sport he has fallen inlove with.
