Foster (61-330) once fired his last accusation at Walter Reuther.
In June of . l941, when Reuther was fighting the communists who
were trying to prolong the strike at the North American Aviation
Company plant in California, Foster asserted that Reuther had tried
for membership in the CP, and was rejected on the grounds of his
obvious opportunism. Budenz stated that he knew that Reuther made
no such attempt, because he, Budenz, had been sent to Detroit by
the Politburo to persuade Reuther to join the Red "top faction" in
the UAW and Reuther had refused to do so. Budenz stated that ~ester
was provoking the recollection that Reuther had gone as a very
young man to Soviet Russia, had worked in its auto factories, and
