The minimum admission requirements for the IT Diploma are listed below (1.1). Forlearners not qualifying, a 12 month entry level certificate in ICT (IT Bootcamp) is offered(1.2).
1.1 NSC Entrance Requirements
1.2 The IT Bootcamp is a 12 month course running on campus. It includes modulessuch as Fundamentals of Programming, MS Office, Internet and E-mail, Maths, Life-and English Comprehension skills. This is to prepare the learner to enter the InformationTechnology Diploma (main stream). A 60% pass rate for all modules are required asminimum entrance level to the IT diploma.

- Learners will learn the concepts and techniquesnecessary to connect to an SQL Database using ADO.NET in a Visual Basic.NETenvironment. (CISCO) CCNA Discovery Course - networking for home, smallbusinesses and ISPs. This course provides hands-on introduction to networking and theinternet using tools and hardware commonly found in the home and small businessenvironments. The student will also cover an introduction to routing and remote access,addressing and network services, they are also familiarized with servers providing emailservices, web space and authenticated access.

- E-commerce principles and management of webenvironments. An introduction to PHP and server-side languages are also covered.
Although the IT Diploma does not have a formal Work Integrated Learning componentthe third year learners do a project for six months. This could either be within a workingenvironment or a self-chosen project. The learner is responsible to obtain practicaldevelopment work since the project entails a complete working application.
The person will find himself/herself in any of a wide variety of computerisedenvironments. Responsibilities may include the maintenance of systems in use, systemsanalysis and design and/or programming of new systems, network administration,database administration and user support. The computer specialist communicates withmanagement and the different users of the systems, which make the position animportant link in the global set-up of the organisation. Management of IT functions is apossible position in the career development of the keen IT specialist.
Computerisation of most facets of modern society creates a multitude of possibilities. In-service training includes the development of prototypes or systems and/or the supervisedsupport of existing systems. The typical entry level is that of programmer with a quickadvance to the level of senior programmer. Further promotions are to the level ofSystems Analyst, Network Administrator or Database Administrator.
IT specialists can acquire membership of the Computer Society of South Africa.

LOANSi) NSFAS LOANSWhat is NSFAS?The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a loanand bursary scheme operating in terms of Act 56 of 99 andfunded by the National Department of Education.NSFAS has been established to assist academically deservingand financially needy students to achieve academic goals attertiary educational institutions in South Africa, withparticular concern in overcoming barriers created bystructural disadvantagement.
What does NSFAS offer?- The means to obtain a tertiary qualification- Loans at low interest rates- Loans without guarantees- A reasonable repayment plan
NSFAS convert loan (s) to a Bursary.Up to 40% of the award may be converted into a bursarydepending on your end of year results.
- If you pass all the courses for which you have registered,you qualify for a 40% bursary.- If you pass three quarters of the course, you qualify for a30% bursary.- If you pass half of the courses, you qualify for a 20%bursary.- If you pass one quarter of the course, you qualify for a10% bursary.- If you pass none of the courses, you qualify for no bursaryat all.
What is a loan?- A loan is the money you borrow to cover tertiary studies.- This loan has to be repaid.
Who qualifies for a NSFAS loan?You can qualify for a NSFAS loan if you are:- A South African citizen;- Registered at a South African university or University ofTechnology;- An undergraduate, studying for a first tertiary educationalqualification; or- Studying for a second tertiary qualification, if this isnecessary to practice in your chosen profession; (e.g. LLB orHDE)- Able to demonstrate potential for academic success;- Financially needy;- You will, however, be expected to make your own familycontribution towards the total costs of your studies.(EFC)
How much money do you get?- There is a minimum award and a maximum award, which
is determined annually by NSFAS. Please enquire at theFinancial Aid Office for the current limits.

What’smore, if we have an agreement with your, or your familymember’s employer, we won’t even have to carry out creditchecks.Once your loan is approved we will:Pay your student fees to the educational institution of yourchoice.Assure you of affordable interest rates with a fixed monthlyinstalment.Give you the option of an Edu-Xtras Smart Card for booksand accessories.You don’t even have to pay a deposit.
