Rotary International, on 22nd October 2014, announced a grant of 8.4 million dollars to Nigeria to
assist the country’s po-lio fight. In a state-ment issued in Dakar, Rotary said the grant came ahead of the Oct. 24 observance of the World Polio Day. It stated that the grant was part of Rotary’s broader contribution of 44.7 million dollars to end the paralysing
disease worldwide. It added that it would be used by UNICEF and the World Health Or-ganisation (WHO) to
support high quality polio immunisation campaigns in Nigeria. Rotary pointed out that with a 90 per cent reduction in polio cases, Nigeria was close to ending the transmission of the po-lio virus. “The funding commitment follows Nigeria’s 90 per cent
reduction in polio cases in 2014, com-pared with 2013 cases, with only six cases recorded to date
in 2014,’’ the s t a t e m e n t noted. It said that Nigeria reported the highest num-ber of polio cases in the world in 2012, adding that “along with Pakistan and Afghani-stan, Nigeria is one of only three coun-
tries where the wild polio virus never stopped. “We will not stop fighting this dis-ease until every child in Nigeria and the world is safe from this crippling disease,” Dr Tunji Funsho, Rotary’s National Polio Plus Chair for Nigeria, said.

visual. This was then followed by a sound and light dance, en-thus ias t i c ia l l y choreo-graphed and presented by Annets Shreya, Sunaina, Samskriti, and Vibha. Last

Everyone was then en-couraged to do the dandiya dance in gay abandon. The evening rounded off with an excellent dinner. I must mention that everyone was dressed to the hilt, especially the Anns. Check out the photos!!!

Shivakumar, Suresh Warrier, Madhavaraya, Shyam Kadur, and Narayan Raghavan. Overall, 6 taps were pro-vided with a long, extended basin. A formal inauguration was done on 2nd Oct to co-incide with Gandhi Jayanti.
Our club has always been supportive of the Govt. School in Bangarappa Na-gar. The club has endeav-ored to fulfill many of the school’s needs such as stu-dent supplies (note books, bags, pencil cases, lunch bags, etc.), railings for all parapet walls, library cup-boards, computers, so on and so forth. It was a fun filled evening as is wont every year. Ann Chi-tra invited the entire Club family for Navratri celebra-tions at her house. She keeps the traditional ‘Golu’ – doll display. Almost all Rotarians, their Anns and Annets par-
ticipated in this festivity. There was a fantastic sat-sang, yummy food, and spiri-tual fellowship. The satsang continued until 9:30 p.m. ably supported on the har-monium by Rtn. Srihari and on the dholak by Rtn. Nara-yan. Rotarians, Anns & even Annets sang lustily with
great devotion to make it a grand success. It is now a yearly event to look forward to.

My camera is an extension of my ocular tissue.
I click photographs not to capture a memorable mo-ment but to make a moment memorable.
If I stumble upon a deserted beach with only the thunder of the tide in my ears and the last golden rays of sunset in my eyes and have the sea breeze rustle through my hair and scrunch the fine white sand under my toes…I will or-der everyone to say CHEESE!
Before immortalising a beauti-ful landscape, I will plant the nearest available human with the corniest possible smile, front and center.
A spell to capture distant ob-jects: Abracadabra willy-nilly-zoom!
At social gatherings, I click
countless pictures of the same people wearing the same clothes posing in the same manner with the same smiles, because practice makes per-fect.
May I never commit the sacri-lege of capturing people as they are in life. The only can-did snaps I take are those that can embarrass you.
I will click a thousand por-traits of each of my friends with the background out of focus. These will be their pro-file pics for the rest of their lives.
A friend who carries my tri-pod is a friend indeed.
On Saturday nights, my cam-era automatically clicks ran-dom pics of my friends and I bleary-eyed, drunk or passed out. On Sunday morning, I will tag everybody whose elbow, knee or little finger is visible in any of these keep-ers.
Once I get commit-ted/engaged/married, my profile pic cannot feature anyone apart from me and my beloved, or we will both die.
I judge a photograph by its F a c e b o o k wo r th i n es s , and the num-ber of likes and com-ments it gar-ners.
I will capture red roses, white roses, pink roses and a touch-me-not (because I’m versatile) from my phone camera and super-scribe *Insert Your Name* Photography on every photo in a nice conspicuous font.
I will click photos of photos.
I solemnly swear that the photographs I click will make you look flawless, wholly
flawless and nothing but flawless, so help me God.
Give me Photoshop and I will give you perfection.
Sepia is my birthright and I shall use it.
Instagram is my country and all Instagrammers are my brothers and sisters. I love my profile and am proud of its rich and varied filters. I shall always strive to look worthy of it. I shall give my portraits, couplies and all usies the Lux effect and post-produce eve-ryone as a courtesy. To my Instagram and my peeps, I pledge my devotion. In their well-seeming and popularity alone lies my happiness.
I spare myself the effort of thinking up appropriate cap-tions for photos because they’re all #instagood #picsoftheday #withmybestie #friendforever #iloveher.
If at first you can’t converse, Snapchat.
I take screenshots of Snap-chats and share them, be-cause #privacywatsdat # s w a g # y o l o #otherwordsthatmeannothing r e a l l y # p l u s #termsthatmakesensetonobodybutyou.

Plan ! Prepare! To attend in June 2015
RI Convention.
It is that day of the year….a birthday
What excitement in deciding
what to buy – why not this? Why not that?
What to eat – why not this? Why not that?
I realize that we die each moment
Because time waits for no one
The past is getting created
With every passing second
Can you capture that joy of giving and receiving
That happens all through one’s birth day?
Pack it up in the prettiest wrapping
And gaily adorn it with a satin bow?
That would indeed be a befitting gift
Except that it will have to be from you to yourself!!
The delight, the joy, the happiness, the smile, the bliss
These are all gifts that you have in you
Unwrap them now, look at them, and hug your-self
With a big THANK YOU!!
A poem by Ann Chitralekha Narayan
Dear Rotary family, It’s my pleasure to have put the Oct. 2014 edition of our Club newsletter together. I have been quite busy this month, moving to our new office loca-tion. Despite that, I found a little time here and there to get this all together. What I have observed these past few months are the various initiatives that the new Board has taken up to bring in new blood, new ideas, new per-spectives, and new contributions to the betterment of our community. I am now convinced that our Club is strongly rooted and we have plenty of leaders who will take this Club for-ward in the years to come. I have no-ticed that in our club, there are Rotari-ans, old and new, who come forward and support initiatives from the front, while there are equally dedicated members who support the same initia-tives from behind the scenes. I thank each one of you – Rotarian, Ann, An-net – for being there. In many in-stances, as a club grows and becomes a veteran club, I have found that there
is always some amount of politics that dilutes fellow-ship. However, in our club, solidarity is utmost – we never let each other down. The beauty is the participa-tion of Anns and Annets to make all our meetings and events successful and memo-
rable. We all bring joy, togetherness, and love to our Club. We are indeed a personification of ‘Vasudaiva Kutum-bakam.’ I pray to Goddess Rajarajesh-wari to bless our Club so that it may continue to be this way in future. I hope you like this edition as much as I liked working on putting it all to-gether. Yours in Rotary, Narayan Raghavan
