Course Syllabus

Course Title: Precalculus Course Code: MPS21

Course Vision: This course is intended deepen algebra, geometric and trigonometric skills to more complex mathematics and applications. Students will extend and analyze their knowledgebase of mathematics, utilizing skills acquired in Algebra II. Facility of these concepts is especially important for the college-bound students to explore challenging topics in depth. Problem solving and critical thinking skills utilized in Precaluclus are valuable tools that can be taken to and applied in other disciplines.

Course Objectives: In this course students are expected to expand and strengthen their algebra skills, as we integrate real-world situations into our daily math curriculum. Students will engage in cooperative group work, partner collaboration or individual work to learn and apply the principals of Algebra II while implementing skills such as creativity, innovation, communication, logical thinking and problem solving.

Topics: Chapter P- Fundamental Concepts of Algebra I&II Chapter 1- Functions and Graphs Chapter 2- Polynomial and Rational Functions Chapter 3- Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Chapter 4- Trigonometric Functions Chapter 5- Analytic Trigonometry Chapter 6- Additional Topics in Trigonometry Chapter 7- Systems of Equations and Inequalities Chapter 9- Conic Sections and Analytic Geometry Chapter 10- Sequences, Induction, and Probability Chapter 11- Induction to Calculus

Assignments: Homework will be assigned on a nightly basis and will be checked the next day.

Homework will typically be checked for completion and that the student put an HONEST EFFORT towards completion. The student should expect about 30-45 minutes of homework per night, but this can vary based on the assignment.

Quizzes will be given throughout each chapter based on teacher discretion—typically on a weekly basis.

A Unit Test can be given at the end of each chapter. Individual and group projects which correspond to the current content will be

given throughout each quarter.________________________________________________________________________

The weekly warm-ups and exit questions will be collected and are worth 10 points for the week towards classwork and participation. Points will be lost for unexcused absences.

Attendance and Make-Up Assignments PolicyAttendance will be taken at the beginning of every class period. Unexcused attendance is considered towards the student’s participation grade, as it is necessary to be in class in order to participate. It is the student’s responsibility to make up a missed homework or assignments due to an unexcused absence. Students are expected to turn in assignments on time. Late assignments will be given partial credit and missing assignments will be a zero. Assignments with an M on Engradepro can be made up for partial credit.

Supplies and Materials:Students must come to class daily with:

Workbook Pencils (no ink please!) A notebook OR a math section in a binder Texas Instrument Calculator (TI-83, TI-84, plus models) is recommended
