Definition• Overpopulation is a condition in which the density of the population

expands to a limit which lead to a deterioration of the environment, a decrease in the quality of life or collapse of the population.

Page 3: Urban growth and overpopulation

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages•One of the most important advantages is the development such as, we are all bound to better every day because there's more competition.•Advances in medicine, the mortally rate has decrease.•The advances on the science, every day you discover vaccines, new treatments for the illnesses•Improvement in the buildings.•Process in technology, every day we have better tools to our daily life, we have communication etc.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Disadvantages•Due to the increase in human settlements, each year are cut 16 millions of trees•About 5 million of people die every year from diseases related with organic waste.•Decreases quality of life the advantages and the discover of new treatments also make appeared new viruses that are more resistant•There is more pollution , more peoples that they use products often harmful to the planet

Social Effects in Overpopultion

Page 6: Urban growth and overpopulation

The Main Cause• The main cause is the centralism, that causes that people from other

departmens come to find new things and opportunities. That brings like consequence the migration. From 1950 there has been a rapid growth of urban population, now Lima is a megacity.

Page 7: Urban growth and overpopulation

From where does the people migrate

• Most of the times people come from the sierra, region that faces strong agrarian problems precisely because of this centralization. Between 1940 and 1993 in Limas population grew from 645000 inhabitants at 6'565 inhabitant. Peru with these mass migration moves from rural to urban country  with an area of  30% and 70%.

The Impact Overpopulation have on the economy

When countries are overpopulated, is difficult to have enough food to starving or social programs

When a country is overpopulated ,there is a high rate of unemployment because there just aren´t enough jobs.

High level of crime because the people will need to steal things in order to survive.

Will decrease the GDP per capita of that country.High population growth rates in Lima have increased the GDP per capita but

the rest of the country has decreased the ratio. The fact is that the growth is focus in big companies with export row material

and with reduced work force.

World population would not be a problem if there were unlimited land, unlimited water, unlimited resources. Unfortunately, with overpopulation, there is the problem of sharing the same sized pie with smaller portions. People in developed countries who have been accustomed to a better quality of life are reluctant to give it up. In many cases, more efficient use of resources has come along hand-in-hand with improved quality of life.

How does over population affects our environment

• Andrea Vigil A.

Page 16: Urban growth and overpopulation

Increased Pollution• The increase in population creates a greater amount of waste that pollutes

our rivers, sea and land. It also causes a higher consumption of energy and fuel, more transport vehicles, more factories to meet higher demand, thus causing the air pollution.

Page 17: Urban growth and overpopulation
Page 18: Urban growth and overpopulation

Deforestation• This is caused by the growth of cities, as well as the consumption of raw

material (wood), resulting in the decreased uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) increasing the greenhouse effect. (Global Warming)

Page 19: Urban growth and overpopulation

Loss of Farmland• Also caused by the growth of cities, causing thereby producing less food,

increased by the population explosion.

Page 20: Urban growth and overpopulation

Loss of Biodiversity• This loss in our biodiversity is caused by the overexploitation of biological

resources, deforestation of forests and other natural areas causing the extinction of some animal and plant species.

Schools- We need more schools in the provinces of Lima, so that the city is not over populated. It will make life easier for many students as they do not need to come to the city for education.EducationEducation will also help people understand the problems of overpopulation and those associated with bringing up children as well.Family Planning Most countries these days have a family planning that helps married couples understand the problems of overpopulation.

Page 22: Urban growth and overpopulation

• Tax breaks• Couples with more than three children can be taxed heavily as it will help

people stop producing children, as they are given a more favorable deal.

• Sex-Education• Sex education needs to be made mandatory in schools so that we do not

suffer the consequences.

• Health care • Providing the children and new mother´s proper health care is one of the

best solutions to overpopulation as their mortality rates will be reduced.

Conclusion

• In conclusion we should continue to reduce suffering by combating disease and poverty around the world and also continue to improve resource and pollution control so that standards of living can rise without negative impact. For instance, when the numbers of people increase the resource will exhaust like water and crops. The main problem in the world is high cost of living and if you don’t have money you can't live in this world. For example, in the poor countries a lot of people die because they didn’t have the fundamental sources such as water, food and health care. We should increase people's knowledge.
