Why should I be interested in Upward
Bound?• I’m thinking about going to college after graduating from High
School.
• I want to be part of a program that will prepare me for the PSAT, SAT, and the ACT’s to enhance my chances of getting into college.
• I’ve always been interested in going to college, but I don’t know what to do to get there.
• Some of my classes are difficult and I need some assistance.
• I need someone to talk to.
• My grades are good, but I’m worried that my SAT scores are not high enough to get into college.
• I want to go to the University of Rochester.
• My parents have never been to college and I want to be the first person in my family to attend.
• My family doesn’t have enough money to send me to college.
• The Upward Bound Program is FREE.
What are the benefits?• 6 week Summer Program at the University of Rochester.
• Students can broaden their horizons by going on college
tours, visiting college fairs, and attending various cultural
activities and events.
• Internships and shadowing opportunities with Doctors,
Scientists, and Musicians.
• PSAT, SAT, and ACT fees are waived.
• Juniors going into their senior year can earn college
credit during the Summer Program.
• 11th and 12th grade Upward Bound Participants will
receive a monthly stipend.
• One time application process.
What are the requirements to apply?
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have legal documents from the Immigration and Naturalization service to verify his or her intent to become a permanent resident.
• Filed taxes for 2012 and/or have a signed document stating that you receive free/reduced lunch.
• Potential first generation college student. (Neither parents has graduated from a 4 year University/College)
• Low-income individual.
• Has a need for academic support.
• At least 13 years of age and no older than 19 years of age.
• 9th or 10th grader
