URBAN TRANSPORT SITUATION IN
NAIROBI 5
Since inception 7 years ago KURA has been able to upgrade,
construct and maintain over 12,000km of roads in the country
most of them in Nairobi City County.
Nairobi population is over 4m and the day’s population is about
7m (Includes people from the nearby towns e.g Kajiado,
Machakos, Kiambu)
This leads to: -
1. Heavy traffic flows during peak hours
2. Traffic management demands outstripping the
resources
3. Inadequate infrastructure facilities
MEASURES BEING TAKEN BY KURA TO ADDRESS
TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN NAIROBI6
Nairobi Urban Transport Master Plan 2006 and the Nairobi
Integrated Urban Development Plan’ (NIUPLAN), 2014 were
developed through funding from Japan International Cooperation
Agency ( JICA)
