Air transport lies at the heart of modern, globalised economies. Some 3 billion passengers and more than 50 million tonnes of freight are flown around the world every year. And about one third of the value of global trade in manufactured goods is transported by air.

Despite being hard hit by the global economic recession in 2008 and 2009, both in terms of passenger demand and global cruise value sales, the cruise sector has been one of the fastest-growing sectors of Travel & Tourism over the past ten years – and indeed over the last two to three decade.
