Features of Thiel-Lock transom
• No need for ledger bracing, because of exceptionally rigid corner joint
• Fast erection; less tightening then conventional scaffolding
• No loose fittings
• Suitable for every form of building and height
• Guarantees a stable scaffold

Thiel-Lock transom concept combines flexibility, simplicity, strength and quick
(dis)assembly.
The multifunctional Thiel-Lock transom concept scaffold consists of 6 parts:
• The Thiel-Lock transom, provides a stiff scaffold without the need for ledger bracing
• Strong welded right-angle couplers connect uprights
• Right-angle couplers connect railings and horizontal ledgers at an angle of 90°
• Swivel couplers connect diagonals at a different angle
• Transoms + extenders make assembly of the Thiel-Lock concept scaffold easy
because the standards are placed at the correct distance from each other
• Standards, approx. 1270 mm centre to centre, connect the horizontal ledgers on the
work floor with each other so that 5 scaffold planks can be laid alongside each other.
• Transom + extender is provided with a pull-out that enables the assembly of a
maximum of 3 scaffold planks between the inside standard and the building.
• Additional: hop-up brackets with or without extenders.
• Because of the design the use of loose tubes and couplers other then provided isn’t
necessary. Van Thiel advises to use only original parts and if necessary tubes
according to specifications in EN39 and class B couplers according to EN74.
Thiel-Lock transom concept is designed for the construction of independent scaffolds and
can also be used in industry, shipbuilding and the aircraft industry. It prefabricates a
transom tube and 4 fittings to produce a rigid unit that speeds scaffold erection. In
combination with Tube-Lock® transom standards and ledgers it forms a quickly erected, 5
board wide ‘system’ access scaffold.

Legislation
The products manufactured by van Thiel United satisfy the strict quality and production
standards.
The values described in this manual concern steel Thiel-Lock transom concept scaffold
parts.
Regulations from the newest European legislation and standards govern the assembly of
Thiel-Lock transom concept scaffolds.
In connection with safety and legal liability we advise you to use only Thiel-Lock transom
concept parts.
Thiel-Lock transom concept scaffold parts can be combined with wooden scaffold parts
that comply to the product certificate for wooden scaffold parts.
Scaffolding in a form not described in this manual should be considered with the aid of
statistical calculations. van Thiel United can take care of these calculations in consultation
with you.
Check all parts for damage before assembly. Damaged parts may not be used.
An instructor is available for advice at your request.

Erecting a Thiel-Lock transom concept scaffold
The following diagrams show a typical sequence of erection. It should be noted that only
one temporary tube is used, which can be left in the structure until it is time to
dismantle. In some of the diagrams different activities are shown- the sequence is always
A,B,C.
1. Placing base plates 2. Position first pair of standards
3. Fix Thiel-Lock transom on standards 4. Repeat at the other side
5. Fix ledgers below Thiel-Lock transom 6. Fix next Thiel-Lock transom and
standards on ledgers
Fix ledgers below the Thiel-Lock transom

Bracing
Typical bracing arrangements for a Thiel-Lock transom scaffold.
EN-12811 / TG20 - class 3
EN 12810 – 4D – SW12/200 – H2 – A - LS
Guardrails an toe-board not drawn for clarity – guardrails should be placed at 500
and 1000 mm above floor level and a toe-board shall be used.
Tie pattern as shown when using Thiel-Lock® and extender transom together
- Ties can be mounted at inner standard
- Façade bracing every 5th bay
- Max. height 24 m – lift height 2,0 m – max. bay length 2,0 m
- Max. wind speed 24 m/s – maximum tie-load 6 kN (unclad or with debris
netting, sheeting not allowed) - Maximum load on foundation app. 14 kN at maximum height.

The valid agreements for the storage of scaffold material are:
Thiel-Lock transoms 60 pieces four posted pallet
Scaffold tubes 57 pieces tube containers (sorted per length)
Scaffold planks 50 pieces in piles (5 wide, 10 high)
Right-angle coupler fixed wedge 250 pieces in bin
Swivel coupler fixed wedge 250 pieces in bin
System transom + extender 90 pieces four posted pallet
Base plate 250 pieces in bin
Tie tube 57 pieces tube container
It frequently occurs that the bins are not full when taken away. Therefore check when
taken away if there is packaging present. If not, order packaging when reporting
removal.
