The Overseas Trade Fair Participation programme
is part of phase 3 of the SME Instrument “Support
to commercialisation” funded by the EU’s Horizon
2020. The overall objective of the programme is to
support the highly innovative SME Instrument
laureates in accessing overseas markets and allow
them to leverage business opportunities outside
the EU, further enhancing their growth potential.
This catalogue includes the profiles of the
thoroughly selected EU SMEs who are
showcasing their innovations at MIHAS 2017 in
Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The EU-SME Instrument Pavilion is located in Hall 1

Founded in 2006, APRIA Systems is a technology-
based company, strongly focused on innovation to
provide advanced solutions for the purification of
industrial streams based on membrane and advan-
ced oxidation technologies. We aim to contribute to
the sustainability of the current production model

Our product:
ELOXIRAS® allows the efficient destruction of all the
highly concerned pollutants in RAS, such as total
ammonia nitrogen (TAN), nitrite, dissolved organic
matter, pathogens, without the addition of chemicals or
heat and with no change in water composition. Uniquely
electricity and the catalytic properties of the electrode
materials are required to achieve water purification.
ELOXIRAS® HYBRID focuses on new or existing large
RAS facilities, offering an increment of productivity with
lower water and energy use.
ELOXIRAS® MINI focuses on small scale RAS facilities
for final commercialisation of adult aquaculture species,
offering compactness and adaptable treatment capacity.
ELOXIRAS® LOGISTIC focuses on typical truck or well
boat transport operations from hatcheries to growing
facilities, offering extended range of distances and bigger
biomass capacity.
ELOXIRAS® BIO focuses on quarantine and
biosecurity facilities of any RAS scale, offering control of
pathogens due to the disinfection capabilities and contri-
buting to high isolation levels.

SUSTAINABLE PURIFICATION OF INDUSTRIAL STREAMS
ELOXIRAS® is an innovative water treatment concept, based on
advanced electrochemical oxidation technology, developed to
improve the productivity and environmental impact of aquaculture
companies focused on farming marine species inland by means of
modern Recirculating Aquaculture Systems.

AvantiCell Science (ACS) has a mission to provide
innovative tools for the evaluation of new drugs,
therapies or foods. ACS will achieve its mission
through commercial sale of advanced cell models
based on ethically-sourced human cells, produced
by combinations of additive manufacturing and cry-
opreservation, and contract services based upon
those models. Testing performed using ACS 3D hu-
man cell models will be more predictive of health
benefit than conventional methods typically used by
the pharmaceutical, healthcare or natural therapeu-
tics industries. Moreover, ACS technology delivers
this analytical advantage to customers in a conven-
ient, “plug and play” product format.
Our product:
Our main products are 3D human cell models produced
by additive printing and presented to customers in cryo-
preserved (frozen) format. The technology platform will
be applied progressively across AvantiCell’s library of hu-
man cells. However, the product specifically promoted at
the trade fair will be a “plug and play” cell toxicity test
using human stem cells. Its unique selling point is that it
delivers unprecedented ease of use without compromis-
ing analytical quality.
Ease of use arises from removal of need for cell manipu-
lation and short lead time to data acquisition. Analytical
quality derives from use of physiologically-relevant cells
in culture formats which promote tissue-like function and
confer predictive value i.e. results predict a test com-
pound’s likely effect in clinical or healthcare use.
A service based upon these printed models will also be
promoted to organisations which prefer to out-source
their analytical testing. The technology platform under-
pinning both cell-based products and service will be de-
scribed in technical literature, accompanied by an explan-
atory audio-visual animation of the analytical process.
Our target audience:
We are looking forward to meeting potential customers
and distributors in the ASEAN Region.
Customers will be offered a reliable, predictive tool with
which to test the efficacy (biological activity) and biosafe-
ty of new Halal products they wish to take to the market.
This information is a direct and fundamental requirement
of Halal compliance for all suppliers of healthcare prod-
ucts. For these reasons, ACS considers its technology
particularly attractive to research leaders, especially those
responsible for new product validation, activities for
which the ANAPRINT products are ideally suited.
Interest in identifying distributors lies principally in
finding specialist distributors of life science products in
SE Asian countries beyond Malaysia, where ACS already
has an established distributor in the form of a wholly-
owned subsidiary. This particularly includes those ASEAN
countries where natural product therapeutic develop-
ment is high on the agenda of the local biotechnology
industry.
Why us:
Our SME Instrument project ANAPRINT will develop new
products for bioactivity and biosafety testing. These
products are additively-manufactured cell models, and
their use in “cell-based analysis” will be relevant to
potential customers across a range of industry sectors,
from pharmaceutical drug discovery through natural
product therapeutic evaluation to functional food testing.
AvantiCell products uniquely provide the means to obtain
exceptionally reliable information in a highly-ethical man-
ner, using technology that is not reliant on use of animals
or animal materials. These products, which are a direct
outcome of EU public funded manufacturing innovation,
are also delivered in formats which non-specialists can
use with ease and confidence, allowing this testing to be
integrated into any product-development strategy.
Alternatively, should the customer prefer, AvantiCell can
perform the testing and deliver product health-benefit
and safety information in a responsive, cost-effective
service. With these tools, Halal food and medicine
producers can add value to their product offerings,
supporting them with robust scientific information which
wins customer confidence as well as compliance
expected of Halal-accredited products.

Digital Keys comes in the form of a Software Development Kit
Application Programming Interfaces and supporting apps, which can
be added to any existing electronic lock from hotel locks, to home
and office locks, to locker and cabinet locks. Timed access control is
better than with typical keycard systems.
LEAPIN Digital Keys delivers digital solutions to lock
manufacturers to “make their locks smart”. By
enabling Digital Keys, it brings benefits to manufac-
turers, property managers, IoT product/service pro-
viders, and consumers. Lock manufacturers gain va-
lue through increased sales and savings on R&D;
property managers gain value through increased
security and improved management efficiencies; IoT
providers gain value by being able to interface their
products/services to access control systems through
a single point of entry at the cloud; end users gain
value through better security, more convenience,
cost savings; in the case of travel, digital keys offers
guests a better travel experience by offering smart-
phone check-in and not having to queue to check-

Our product:
Digital Keys is an ecosystem of interoperable products,
services, and technologies for issuing, delivering,
revoking, and storing digital keys and associated data on
mobile devices and in the cloud, for opening doors and
managing buildings.
Digital Keys comes in the form of a Software Develop-
ment Kit (SDK) Application Programming Interfaces (API)
and supporting apps, which can be added to any existing
electronic lock from hotel locks, to home and office locks,
to locker and cabinet locks. With no supporting network
infrastructure required, Digital Keys offers timed access
control better than typical keycard systems, and better
than Wi-Fi enabled smart locks, at significantly reduced
costs.
Using a combination of NarrowBand Internet of Things
(NB IoT), with One Time Password (OTP), Near Field Com-
munication (NFC) technology, cloud computing and
smart phone apps, digital keys enables a single point of
entry to the cloud to interface with any existing software
or hardware devices, whilst utilising big data to improve
building management and end user experiences.
Our target audience:
We are looking to meet Hoteliers in the ASEAN region.
We have already installed our product in around 3000
rooms in hotels in Germany, and proven our concept,
however we are looking for opportunities in new markets
such as in SE Asia. Our product offering is similar to
Hilton Hotels Digital Key/Honors program, and the
Starwood Preferred Guest Program, however our product
is available for hotels and resorts of all sizes.
Why us:
LEAPIN has been ccepted into one of Europes leading
accelerator programs at H-Farm Venice Italy. The next
stage of development for Leapin is to scale up with a
large scale Proof of Concept project to reach the com-
mercialisation phase of its SmartLock technology and
system, following the scale-up of its software, industriali-
sation of its hardware and demonstration of the techno-
logy in-field with a number of SME hotels, and hotel
chains in the ASEAN and/or European region. Leapin’s
Digital Keys will impact upon hotel property manage-
ment by streamlining the process from guest’s initial
booking to their online check-in and arrival in a similar
way to the airlines online check-in systems.

Marcold Group’s mission is to respond fully and ac-
curately to each client's unique needs in terms of
size and volume, design, performance, cooling
processes and degree of dynamism of the cold. The
grain cooling Charly and TurboGrain series are the
result of more than 20 years of experience in the
field of industrial refrigeration in general and grain
cooling in particular.
Our product:
Storage and preservation of cereals involve several pro-
blems concerning the maintenance of product quality, as
well as the management of an agro-food enterprise from
the economic and energetic point of view. An efficient
and modern grain cooling system represents the best
possible solution to problems such as product loss
through drying, proliferation of moulds and insects, fer-
mentation, ecological sustainability and energy saving.
MARCOLD GROUP manufactures a wide range of grain
coolers consisting of the CHARLY and TURBOGRAIN se-
ries: they represent, thanks to their operational characte-
ristics and performances, an optimal solution for all pos-
sible applications worldwide. Besides robust construction
and versatility, MARCOLD GROUP cooling systems also
feature an intelligent use of themost advanced technolo-

We are looking for business partners in the Asian region
willing to introduce in the field of grain and/or seed sto-
rage (soy, malt, wheat, rice, corn) and interested in re-
searching new methods of conservation or simply impro-
ving of the actual methods. Marcold has installed more
than 300 refrigerators in Europe, North Africa and South
America.
Why us:
Marcold Group offers education of potential customers
on the new machine and its advantages, as such
knowledge will be crucial to capture their interest and
increase sales. This will be done through a dedicated
sales and support team providing timely, accurate
responses to customer service requests.
Furthermore, to dissipate any hesitations from clients
towards the value of the technology, a trial period of 3-4
months will be granted to customers buying our ma-
chines.

Marcold Group manufactures products for industrial refrigeration
and air conditioning, notably products for storage and
preservation of cereals (grains and seeds). Apart from grains and
seed, Marcold is also present in the other agri-food sectors like ice
cream, but also textile and petrochemical industries.

NEOALGAE is a microalgae biotechnology SME
focused on commercialisation of new develop-
ments with 3 commercial trademarks based on
microalgae and new food applications
(www.neoalgae.es and www.vesana.es), and cosme-
tic (ALSKIN). Four types of products will be exhibited
at the fair:
1. The Microalgae products of NEOALGAE
2. VESANA vegetable cream soups with superfoods
3. The cosmetic line ALSKIN based in microalgae
4. The products from the VOPSA2.0 project
Our product:
1. The microalgae products of NEOALGAE are currently
marketed as dry powder and capsules: NeoSpirulina and
NeoChlorella.
2. The food processing vegetables cream soups with su-
perfoods (including microalgae) of VESANA involves no
additives, preservatives or dyes. These natural products
suitable for vegans, and free from gluten and lactose.
VESANA products have fully commercial maturity, being
marketed in the online shop and through distributors.
3. Each product of the cosmetic line ALSKIN has different
properties according to the microalgae present: C cream
(Anti-aging with C. vulgaris), D cream (Antioxidant, anti-
aging and nourishing with D. salina), H cream (Anti-
wrinkle, antioxidant, illuminating and protective with H.
pluvialis), S cream (Moisturizing and anti-cellulite, with
Spirulina) and DHS serum).
4. With the VOPSA2.0 project, NEOALGAE is developing a
new eco-innovative and sustainable industrial bioprocess
for obtaining natural Omega-3 and Astaxanthin using
marine microalgae for nutraceutical, pharmacy and aqua-
culture applications. In addition, the partner BICOSOME
(a high performance cosmetic and dermopharmaceutical
ingredients SME) will develop a novel biomimetic encap-
sulation system for the cosmetic applications of
the project.
NEOALGAE will exhibit a portfolio of unique, sustai- na-
ble, stable and high quality bio-products based on natu-
ral Omega-3 and Astaxanthin consisting on Omega -3 oil,
Astaxanthin and Omega-3 oil enriched with Astaxanthin.
In addition the entire processes will be showed and the
novelties explained (in microalgae culture and the eco-
sustainable extraction process).
VOPSA2.0 bioprocess is currently at TRL 7 (system proto-
type demonstration in operational environment) and will
be able to achieve the commercial maturity at the end of
the project (Oct 2018).
Our target audience:
Our intention is to seek commercial representatives in
Asia area and Islamic countries that can sell our nutra-
ceutical and vegan food products. We will launch di-
sruptive products as results of our VOPSA2.0 project in
the next months and we need partners to help us in the
commercial launch. Because of our small size, for us is
difficult to address the direct commercialization in some
areas out of EU, so we need to stablish distribu- tion
agreement with partners with other areas to drive our
internationalization.

Aside from the recognition received from the European
Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, NEOALGAE won in
October 2013 the Second Price “XXI ENTREPRENEUR
AWARDS” (EMPRENDES category) in the VII edition of
2013. The prizes are awarded by the bank LA CAIXA, with
the collaboration of the Industry, Energy and Tou- rism
Minister of Spain, and are organized by the Econo- my
and Employment Regional Ministry of Asturias. NEOAL-
GAE won in October 2014, the Spanish green- entrepre-
neur price “Red emprende verde”, in the category. “Grow
and Consolidate in green", aimed to create an innovative
company linked to the environ- ment NEOALGAE also
won in 2015: winner of the Awards Association of the
Young People Of Asturias 2015 (Cat Junior).

New Gluten World (NGW is a company set up by
the University of Foggia, Molino Casillo SpA, a world
leader researcher in the transformation of grain, and
the lead researcher Carmen Lamacchia. It aims to
globally promote a gluten-friendly technology that
will displace current gluten free approaches to the
celiac disease in preparation of cereal-based
foodstuff.
The methodology is patent protected in 105 countries
worldwide. NGW’s mission is to break down the nutritio-
nal divide, that discriminates celiac patients (who are in-
tolerant and sensitive to gluten against healthy indivi-
duals. Enabling milling companies and producers
worldwide to detoxify gluten through the proprietary
methodology will progressively overcome the traditional
gluten free products and make all individuals part of the
gluten friendly revolution.
Our product:
New Gluten World will introduce on the International
market the revolutionary Gluten Friendly™ methodology,
a new and innovative detoxification method of gluten
proteins from grains of cereals that are used in the pro-
duction of bread, pasta and baked goods, mainly for ce-
liac and gluten sensitive patients. The traditional ap-
proach to celiac disease – that is, a “gluten free” diet with
gluten removed with expensive enzymes – will be repla-
ced by a new, disruptive and cost-effective approach,
where a natural and safe physic-chemical process modi-
fies the toxic component of gluten, while leaving its me-
chanical, nutritional, and sensorial properties untouched.
The methodology stems from the advanced biotech re-
search conducted at the University of Foggia and addres-
ses a grand social and economic challenge for the world,
where celiac patients are on average 1% of the world po-
pulation, while 30% has gluten-sensitivity, with figures
increasing every year. The market opportunity is huge,
fenced by a patent extended in 105 countries. Such op-
portunity will be seized by NGW moving quickly to TRL
#9 with huge tests on a pilot plant that confirms both the
technical effectiveness of the method and its industrial
feasibility. At the same time, clinical studies are being
conducted to exclude side effects and confirm the bene-
ficial properties of the gluten-detoxified products.
Our target audience:
Direct users of the Gluten Friendly™ technology will be
the milling companies that produce flour at industrial
level. That level of the market is extremely competitive
and is more sensitive to innovation (as opposed to down-
stream vertically integrated markets), to the extent inno-
vation is instrumental to clear strategies of differentiation
(Gluten Friendly™ flour) or of cost reduction (detoxifying
method that is cost effective, efficient and easy to imple-
ment). The Gluten Friendly™ industrial process is margi-
nally inexpensive for mill running companies, compared
to traditional pasta, and way more convenient that gluten
free products, because the adaptation of milling plants is
easy to implement, other things being equal. Moreover,
the consumption of power and water is reduced. Business
partners to involve are investors and buyers from USA,
Canada, China, Japan, Singapore, India, South America,
New Zealand and Australia. The market for detoxified
flour has incredible worldwide dimension and the goal
for the Gluten Friendly™ flour is to become the standard
even for gluten sensitive patients or healthy individuals,
thus replacing traditional floor in daily diets.

GLUTEN FRIENDLY LICENSING PROGRAMME
New Gluten World promotes a gluten-friendly technology for
cereal-based foodstuff. The simple and natural methodology
consists in application of microwave energy on hydrated
wheat kernels before the milling process to induce modificati-
ons of wheat gluten proteins.

Home of Cool™ is an electronic cooler device that
uses peltier elements and insulation materials,
therefore fully omitting the compressor and
refrigerant fluid. The on only moving part is and ef-
ficient and low cost coil fan, similar to computer fan,
which blows the hot air away from the unit. The fan
has a lifetime that is at least five times
longer than that of the compressor (depends on
quality of fan).
Our product:
The greatest benefit of our cooler is that it is service free.
Moreover, our refrigerator elements take less than 8% of
the total volume of the cooler (compressor is 30%). Hen-
ce, another benefit is that our coolers take 60% less spa-
ce and are up to 70% lighter than the compressor coolers
available in the market. Other important benefit of our
coolers is that it is vibration free and it is also free from
any chemical regulation since we have removed the fluid
refrigerant. Furthermore, our coolers do not contain any
flammable gases, hence the need for certifications is by
far lower than conventional coolers. All these benefits
lead to huge cost savings in manufacturing and mainte-
nance. Bottom line: our solution gives our customers
great benefits for a lower price!

strengthen the green environment responsibility even

Our target audience:
Our mission is to offer a different approach to display the
products to the customer minimizing space usage with
new, environmentally friendly concepts of cooling,
combining this with excellent design and cutting-edge
technology. Our target market is the professional and
high-volume Point of Sale cooler market, that requires a
cooling temperature down to +6C, Mainly for the
promotion of chilled food or beverages.
Our cooler has also a great potential for chocolate
vendors for example in Asia due the hot indoor ambient
temperature that deforms the chocolate and so lowers its
perception and appeal to customer.
Product development will be done in-house but manu-
facturing is done with selected third parties and sub-
contractors in all production phases.
