Woolwich, MiddlesexHospital (for the cancer research fund), St. Bartholomew’sHospital, Guy’s Hospital, the London Hospital, CharingCross Hospital, Miller Hospital, Greenwich, the BromptonHospital for Consumption. the Cancer Hospital, Fulham-road,the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond-street, theRoyal Waterloo Hospital for Children, the Surgical AidSociety, and St. Dunstan’s Hostel for Blinded Soldiers andSailors.-The late Mr. John Fleming, of Woodside-crescent,Glasgow, left by will .62000 each to the Glasgow RoyalInfirmary, the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, the Victoria.Infirmary, Glasgow, and the East Park Home for InfirmChildren, and JE1000 to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children,York Hill, Glasgow.-The late Mr. Arthur Worthington, ofThe Hydro, Neville-crescent, Llandudno, who left propertvof the gross value of 35,967, bequeathed, after certain smalllegacies have been paid, two-fiftieths to the Infirmary forChildren, Liverpool, and one-fiftieth each the Royal Infirmary,Royal Southern Hospital, St. Paul’s Eye Hospital, Eye andEar Hospital, and the Hospital for Cancer.-The late SirJoseph Walton, of Rushpool, Saltburn, and of Middlesbrough.Yorks, among other bequests, has left a sum of .620,000 anda sum of £ ii000 (less a charge for annuities amounting to£ Za0 per annum) on trust to apply the income for the tenyears following his death, as to : four-tenths to the BeckettHospital, Barnsley, for the children’s ward; two-tenths tothe North Riding Infirmary, lliddlesbrougb, for the children’sward; two-tenths to the North Ormesby Cottage Hospital,for the children’s ward. two-tenths to the Joe W, alton Boys’Club, Faversham-street, Middlesbrough, all in memory of hisson Joseph, and with remainder to his residuary estate. Healso left, in memory of his son Joseph, .S250 a year for tenyears, to be divided between certain institutions, includingthe North Ormesby Cottage Hospital, the Beckett Hospital,Barnsley, Industrial School Nurses’ Home at Middlesbrongh,and the Barnsley Nursing Association.-Under the will ofthe late Mr. William Strickland, of Graveleythorpe, Ha.lton,near Leeds, the testator left, subject to certain life interests,91000 and 1000 shares in John Barran and Sons, Ltd.,between the Leeds General Infirmary and the Women’s andChildren’s General Hospital ; iJ10Ò to the Leeds PublicDispensary, and 2100 to St. John’s Homes for Incurables,Scorton, and the residue (after certain private bequests) tosuch institutions, having for their object the aid of crippledor disabled soldiers, as the executors think best.-Thedirectors of Messrs. Brunner Mond and Co. have decided tomake a jubilee gift of B1000, and have sent a cheque forthat amount, to the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich.—TheChelsea Hospital for Women has received áJ281 from theestate of the late Miss Giacomelli, a former patient of thehospital.-The Manchester Royal Infirmary has receivedfrom the Manchester, Salford and District Joint Committeeof Hospital and Saturdav Fund 1568.—The Lord Mayor ofManchester’s 2,000,000 Shilling Hospital Fund has reachedover .630,000. A cheque for iJ905 has been received fromthe management of the Housekeeping Exhibition, and thedirectors of the Ship Canal have voted .6250 to the fund.

AMBULANCE FACILITIEs.-The great developmentin recent years of the home service ambulance scheme iswell shown in the report of the Norfolk branch of the BritishRed Cross Society for 1922. The county director considersthat many lives are saved each year by this service owing tothe improved method of transit of serious medical andsurgical cases. There are eight ambulance stations in theCounty of Norfolk : at Cromer, Downham Market, EastDereham, Hunstanton, Norwich, King’s Lynn, Thetford, andGreat Yarmouth. In 1919 the number of patients dealt withwas 358 and the mileage covered 6193. The correspondingfigures in 1920 were 701 and 16,030 ; in 1921,676 and 13,572 ;and in 1922, 832 and 14,796, so that in four years no lessthan 2567 cases have been dealt with and 50,592 milescovered. Last year the Norwich car carried 190 patients andtravelled 5622 miles, while the Yarmouth car carried 329patients and travelled 1271 miles.

WORLD’S DAIRY CONGRESS IN U.S.A. - TheCongress will be held from Oct. 2nd to 1Oth at Washington,D.C., Philadelphia, Pa., and Syracuse, N.Y. The provisionalprogramme includes, on Oct. 2nd and 3rd, the officialwelcome and opening of the Congress by high Governmentofficials of the United States, addresses by members of thePresident’s Cabinet and distinguished speakers from severalcountries, three formal sessions of the Congress, visits to

dairy division laboratories, a dairy experimental farm, &c.,and various social functions. At Philadelphia, on the 4th,the Congress will consider the work of the National DairyCouncil. At Syracuse, N.Y., the Congress will continue tos’t from the 5th to 10th. but delegates will participate in theopening of the seventeenth annual National Dairy Exposi-tion, and will have the opportunity of making various tours

of inspection ; numerous social activities will take placeunder the auspices of the Syracuse civic and dairy bodies.Owing to the full programme of Oct. 2nd and 3rd, personswishing to make extended visits to Government laboratoriesand places of interest in Washington will find it advantageousto come in advance of the opening of the Congress. THE annual dinner in London of officers of the IndianMedical Service was held at the Trocadero Restaurant onJune 20th, Major-General Sir W. R. Edwards, K.C.B.,K.C.LE., being in the chair.
