• British Raj: started in 1858

• Raj is an Hindu word• It means the control

of a country by a queen or king

• English man went to India

• They helped the government

• Their life style was luxurious

• Indian people wanted the independence

• Gandhi started a campaign for it

• Britain created two countries in 1947

- India - Pakistan

THE RICH AND THE POOR IN VICTORIAN TIMES

• THE RICH:– Rich people normally lived in a very big

house with many rooms and servants to do the household.

– Rich children couldn’t play with poor children; they only saw poor children in the church and at Christmas day.

• THE RICH:– The girls only went to school to learn

basic lessons and boys went to boarding schools.

– Sometimes they travelled with carriages or train.

• THE RICH:– They had all that they wanted but

sometimes the children felt lonely because they couldn’t play with normal children.

• THE POOR:– Poor people normally lived in little

cottages. They had a few rooms and they hadn’t got servants to do the household.

• THE POOR:– Children started to work very young,

they didn’t go to school.– Sometimes they went to bed hungry

because there wasn’t enough food for all of them.

• THE POOR:– If they wanted to go anywhere they had

to walk. They never had been in a train or a carriage.

THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS THAT APPEARED IN THE SECRET GARDEN

• We found two flowers and two plants:– First flower: Crocuses. It’s preened and we

can found them in central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East…. It is purple and yellow inside.

THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS THAT APPEARED IN THE

SECRET GARDEN• Second flower: Daffodils. It’s called narcissus or

jonquil, too. We can found them in Europe, North Africa and West Asia. It is white and yellow inside.

SECRET GARDEN• First plant: Ivy. It’s a plant that climbs buildings

or other objects. It belongs to the araliacae family. We can found them in Europe, Macaronesi, northwestern Africa…. It’s green.

SECRET GARDEN• Second plant: Apple tree. It’s the tree that gives

us apples. It has another name called Malus. We can found them in a lot of places like Europe, Asia, some parts of Africa...
