11th –19th Mar‘17 2nd Sunday of Lent Weeks 2
Message from Fr Prem ~ My dear parishioners I would wish to dedicate this message in reflecting on two as-pects. Even though I promised in my last week’s message that I would reflect on aspects of the pastoral assembly, with the view of reaching out to the wider congregation, in conscience, I cannot be distracted from the significance of the season of Lent. So ‘Lent’ first, I can hear you say; ‘that’s right father, thank you’ Yes indeed! Hearing confessions of the children in the school I was asking the children, so how are you preparing during this season of lent for the grand finale of Easter (well not in same words!). I was very impressed when they said they were giving up chocolates, sweets etc. The whole idea of wanting to ‘give up’ during lent is excellent. It is lovely to know that the children have picked it up. The oth-er day I heard on the radio too, giving up for lent; wine and chocolates like a fashion. Sometimes for reasons of vanity such as loosing weight or saving money for our selfish ends! So we need to take care, all efforts, all giving up, is for tam-ing our instincts and so not sin. The ultimate goal is give up our sin! Lent is not only a season of ‘giving up’ but also ‘taking on’. As I suggested in my last weeks message a res-olution to observer the church law faithfully and so come to mass on every Sunday, and so be enriched by the spiritual journey the readings and the sacraments proposes. If you are brave enough, daily mass too, further, joining in morn-ing prayer, rosary etc. as well. Why not consider doing a little chore for the church and the parish too. So this brings me beautifully to my second reflection on
the Parish Pastoral Assembly. Am I not clever! Well I suppose you have already gathered, that my Cambridge Phd was not, as one of my priest’s colleagues asked me;
‘did you really do all these degrees, including the one in Cambridge!’ simply got it or bought it. My modesty! The parish desperately needs your hand. When I cele-brate mass, I suppose you by now had gathered, I put a bit of time and preparation on my part, but when I come to mass and see it is the same person or persons reading most of the time, my heart sinks, yes I pretend and smile! So why not give a hand. So here’s the list of things that you can volunteer for as it was asked in the assem-bly, for a list. You could help volunteering in any of the following. I would wish that every parishioner would take up at in least one of the following. How lovely then! 1) Be a reader 2) Be an Eucharistic minister 3) Help with preparing and training the altar servers 4) Greeters - welcoming people at the entrance 5) Collectors - carrying the blue bags just before offertory 6) Counters - counting the money after the last mass on
Sunday 7) Flower arrangement 8) Cleaners of the church 9) Supporting the coffee rota 10) Helping with youth work 11) Helping organise children’s liturgy 12) Join the development and maintenance group 13) Join the fundraising group 14) Why not volunteer to pick the weeds and rubbish in the church gardens 15) When asked be willing and happy to help with carry ing the offertory 16) Join the choir and the music group 17) Becoming a catechists or helping
Thank you very much for your good will
PRAYER TO THE HOLY TRINITY FOR THE PREPARATION OF MASS Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Ho-ly Spirit, come to us and renew us as we gather to celebrate this Sunday Mass. As we continue our pilgrimage of life, help us to become better Christians on earth so that we may rejoice with

DEMENTIA PRAYER WEEK, 12-19 MARCH 2017 Loving Father, you are close to the broken-hearted. Look with compassion on those whose lost memories have robbed them of home and belong-ing. Comfort and strengthen those who care for them.
May they make their home in you. This we ask through Christ Our Lord.
