On Monday, January 19th, 15 Hebron High School students accompanied English Teacher Jared Grigsby to Merrillville High School for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Work-shop. Merrillville's S.T.A.N.D. club hosted dif-ferent workshops that centered on social issues that paid honor to Dr. King. Students from schools across northwest Indiana learned about and discussed racial profiling, body im-age, bullying, and the rights of transgender people. These workshops took students from their comfort zones and introduced them to issues they may not have thought about in the past. The discussions held in each workshop were deep, and impacted the students a great deal. They came away from the day with a heightened sense of respect for others, their
own actions and how they are interpreted, and reaching an equal place in society for eve-ryone. The students who attended all agreed that it was a great day and most would like to participate again. Those who attended this year's workshop were seniors Liz Fox, Matthew Hernandez, and Michael Hoisington, juniors Jourden Bixenmen, Jon Grant, Madison Sohaney, and Ryan Schmidt, sophomores Tyler Patrick, Colin Rocha-Arana, and Carli Sowonik, and freshmen Peyton Doelling, Suzie Higgins, and An-thony Summerville.
vided by our talented Hebron High School Choir as well as musician and 2009 HHS grad Justin King’s acoustical talents. We will also have the Hoosier Recruits performing that evening—back by popular demand! And of course, you will leave with a hand-made bowl
to remind you of the evening made by members of our community along with stu-dents and faculty here at Hebron High School. In addi-tion, there will be a silent auction that includes many generously donated items. Stay for the basketball game that evening against Wash-ington Township at 6 and 7:30. Join us for a great even-
ing to benefit our local food pantry—tickets are now on sale and are also available at the door for $10.00, and $5 for children.

Boy’s Basketball
The Hebron Boys Basketball team is doing very well throughout
their season and are planning to finish up very strong and trounce the
Porter County Conference Tournament. The boys are now at a pivot-
al point at a 6-5 record, and they have been pushing themselves to
the max and hoped to earn a PCC Trophy. For seniors Bryce Hana-
way, Colton Jones, Spencer Sutherland, Brad Blank, and Layne Plo-
mann, this was their last opportunity to take home the PCC title. The
boys faced Washington Township this past Thursday night at Boone
Grove High School. The boys took the lead early on, but the Senators
picked up steam throughout the game. The Hawks fell to Washing-
ton Township 45 - 36. This was especially a tough loss since the team
also had a loss of 55-43 against Lake Station on January 17. The
boys are now regrouping and fo-
cusing their efforts on sectional
play. They aren’t letting these
setbacks rattle them.

The Girls Basketball team has
reached the half mark of their
2014-2015 season with a record of
4-11. They recently made an appearance at the PCC Banquet along
with the boys’ team to draw for who plays who in the PCC Tourna-
ment which will be held at the Hebron gym this year. The draw
matched the girls up with the toughest team ranked in the conference,
the South Central Satellites. On Tuesday, December 20th, the girls
showed up on their home court to try and earn their spot in the cham-
pionship game. It was a tough game against the ranked South Central
girls’ team, and our Lady Hawks put up their best fight. With a final
score of 81-41, the girls walked out of the gym with their heads high,
ready to take on West Central on Tuesday, January 27th. Come out
and support your Hebron Girls Basketball Team!

Students celebrated becoming members of the 100 Points Club party yes-terday, January 22nd during their SRT. This was for the students who read at least 100 points or more during the first semester. There are only have 11 members of the club compared to last year’s 34, after semester. If you didn’t make it this semester, try for second. Last year, one third of the school was in the club by the end of the school year! So, remember to just keep reading!

Make-Up Days
Due to the frosty, dangerous weather during the second week of January,
Hebron Schools were cancelled for two days. On January 7th and 8th, the sub-
zero wind chill shut MSD of Boone Township, along with many other schools
in the area, down for the safety of our students. Hebron Schools made up a
day today, Friday, January 23rd, and will be in session on Friday, February
13th in order to make up for the two days lost. It was only a little painful to-
day, and we look forward to seeing the students on the 13th, after which they
may still enjoy a three day weekend due to President’s Day.
