LEAVE – MS WELLINGS
Mrs Danka Murray is working at Forestville as Principal over the next 2 weeks while I am on
leave. She is very excited to be able to meet students, parents and staff and work in a
different setting. I know our community will make her welcome.
HARMONY DAY
Harmony Day is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful
integration of migrants into our community.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we
should celebrate this and work to maintain it.
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians,
regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Let’s come together with friends and family and through schools, workplaces and our
wider communities to celebrate our diversity.
We are doing a gold coin fundraiser for the Cambodian Happy Days School as part of
our Harmony Day celebration.
Attached is a newsletter published annually by the Happy Days School Charity.
Many thanks for your support,
Louisa Wellings
Relieving Principal
Thank you students, staff and students at Forestville Public School community for
welcoming me with so much kindness and with so many smiles. I was given the heads
up about the wonderful community here, and it's all true! I'm only here for a couple of
weeks from down the road in Killarney Heights, and am thrilled to be working in another
community so filled with kindness and wellbeing at the heart.
I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge that members of our community,
including students, staff and parents, may be distressed by world events such as the
Christchurch tragedy. Students may want to discuss the incident with friends, family or
in the classroom this week, and may share opinions and views which is a normal
response to a tragic incident like this. It is recommended that staff and parents listen
carefully and answer questions based on fact. At times like this our students look to us,
the adults, to make sense of the world. Please let the school know if support is required.
It is timely that this coming Thursday is Harmony Day where we celebrate 'Everyone
Belongs'.
Thank you again for your welcome.

Deputy Principal’s Message
Tell Them From Me Years 4 – 6 student feedback survey (Term 1, 2019)
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will
participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student
feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic
achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on
student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick
feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the
different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and
around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing
the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will
typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school
hours between 11 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with
students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form
to school by Friday 29 March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
For more information about the student survey, please read the TTFM student survey
FAQs parent and carers fact sheet located here:

the bell.

From the Office
On Thursday 21 March, Forestville Public School will be celebrating Harmony Day. This day
is all about accepting people no matter where they come from or what they do. This day
was first celebrated in 1999, and since then has been inviting every person in Australia, no
matter who they are, to get together with others and have some fun.
The message for Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a
welcome part of our country.
Harmony Day
In order to celebrate it, the SRC, Miss Mountford and Miss Young have arranged for all
children to come to school on that date wearing either something orange or in traditional
clothing that celebrates their background and family. In return, we are asking for a gold
coin donation to go towards the Happy Days Cambodian Village School.
This cause has continued to be supported by Forestville Public School and it is wonderful
to see what a difference we have already made.
To find out more about this special cause, please visit the link below.
http://www.happydayscambodianvillageschoolinc.org.au/
We look forward to celebrating this day together and everything that makes Australia
great!
Ride2School Program
Once again Forestville Public School will be participating in the National Ride2School
program. Last year we had 91% of our students ride, scooter, skateboard or walk on the
day. The program aims to increase the children's level of physical activity and awareness
of road and bicycle safety through riding, scootering or walking to school. Students are
encouraged to ride their bike, scooter or walk safely to school on this Friday 22 March.
Students who participate in riding must wear a helmet and everyone who participates will
be given a sticker upon arrival. Please clearly label your mode of transportation and be
patient at the end of the day when we try to clear all of the bikes and scooters out of the
parking areas. The students will be told where to park their bikes as each stage will have
a separate parking area. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Ellis. Happy riding!

Dear Parents
Election fever is rife!
As always, Forestville Public School is a voting station and traditionally
we put on a cake stall and BBQ.
This has proven to be a very successful fundraiser.
We need your support in baking up a storm,
so we can sell lots of treats to the voters....
and of course, raise money for our fantastic school!
Bake a Cake, Biscuits, Scones, Savoury items,
make Jams or a slice... whatever you like!

secured and labelled in the plastic bag provided,
either before 9am to the staff room,

Paul Kelly Cup
Wow! AFL teams excel!
Last Wednesday, four Forestville Public School AFL teams took part in the regional playoff
for the Paul Kelly Cup. Teams were placed in round robin pools with each playing 3 matches
against other school. After the 12 pool matches our teams had only lost 2 matches
collectively! One of our boys’ teams and one of our girls’ teams progressed to the semi-
finals and then finals where both teams dominated! It is the first time in a long time (maybe
ever) that both our boys’ and girls’ teams have progressed to the Area finals and we
couldn't be prouder!

Magnificent March!
As Easter and the school holidays are quickly approaching, we realise how quickly this year is already flying by! The month of March has seen the children of Before & After School care participating in a whole range of community events including School Clean-Up Day as part of Clean Up Australia Day and International Ask a Question Day, where we go the
children asking a wide range of questions. We also are celebrating National Nuturiton month by allowing the children in the afternoon sessions
to take control of their healthy food choices. We have seen the last of our Health
and Wellbeing sports conclude for term 1 and with the selection of term 2 sports
already underway. This term we had AFL running on Tuesday mornings with
Coach Pat and Netball on Thursday afternoons with the local Forestville
Netball club. These were greatly enjoyed by the children and is always
great to see different children get involved over the two days.
Our staff have also been attending training sessions almost every week this month including CPR, the Roles of Certified and Nominated Supervisors training, QikKIds
Management & Enrolment training and, New Employee training. Regular staff meetings held monthly have also ensured team members both new and old have the opportunity to give feedback, stay up to date on WHS and Company policies,
and have an opportunity to provide their own input into our program and the general running of the service, this is also a good opportunity for the staff to come together and participate in quizzes
and to contribute to the centre’s QIP regularly.
Breakfast at FOSHC includes a range of cereals such as Cheerios, Weet Bix, Home made Muesli and Sultana Bran. There is also the option of wholemeal toast or raisin toast, with a variety of spreads which we allow the children to help themselves too, to establish and foster independence and self help skills. Three mornings a week Chef Brandon runs Cooking Club with some of our older children helping, this can include foods such as omelettes, bacon and eggs, and pancakes. Our afternoon tea menu here consists of a four-week rotating menu including snacks such as antipasto platters, DIY muesli bowls, smoothies, home made honey soy chicken, tacos, pasta and homemade muffins. Each afternoon the children are also encouraged to eat fruit from our fresh fruit platters. Milk is also readily available for children whilst at the Centre. We have also set up an indoor water station that the children have access too at all times.
We have policies that support sun safe practices and we engage in several sun safe practices with the children that encourage safe behaviours. This
includes children discussions of sun safety and the promotion of sunscreen by Educators assisting in the afternoons, displays to encourage sunscreen
application, applying sunscreen to the children when they go outside, wearing hats or playing in the shade. To further reinforce SunSmart practices,
educators role model these expectations.
As most of you are aware our April Vacation Care program is out now. We encourage all families to get in quick as we have some exciting activities and experiences planned! Our excursions include a Boat cruise to Shark Island, Movies, Brunch Bar Lunch and our incursions are No Limit Sports and Epic Gaming. Bookings can be made through the ‘My Family Lounge’ APP in the
casual bookings tab.
Families can contact Centre staff on 0433 474 352 or by emailing [email protected]
Kind regards Molly, Hal and the FOSHC team
