Regardless of the model, the CIO will likely be better aligned to executives other than the CFO

The Changing CFO & CIO Relationship
• A healthy tension between the CFO and the rest of the business is not a
bad thing
• Most budgets are like a python – they will expand to fill the space
available in the cage. CFO remains keeper of the cage.
• Ten years ago the conversation was typically, "Can we please stop
buying more servers?" Now we have to do a lot more education with the
move toward SaaS/cloud models.
• We are able to deliver value much quicker with these new delivery
models, which always makes the CFO happy…

The Role of the CIO at Ceridian Partnership with the CFO to Drive Transformation
Modernization
Transformation
Uniqueness
Ceridian is moving to the Cloud – both from an
infrastructure and a strategy perspective
As a software company, the role of the CIO blurs between
back office and mission critical (in a good way!)
Address deferred investment
How is IT Changing at Ceridian? What hasn’t changed?
Reinvention
Managing Risk
Value
Our information security requirements are
complex
As we make significant capital investments in 2013 (nearly
$20M), partnership with the CFO is critical
Move from a mindset of ‘wait’ to ‘run’

Impact of Mobile, Social, Cloud
• The role of the CIO remains the same: help the
business sell more, run as efficiently as possible,
and ultimately help customers do those same things
• IT is moving rapidly from a focus on infrastructure to
a focus on value-add
• Cloud, social and mobile all feed off of each other
• As an IT vendor, Enterasys has always put a
strategic value on the IT function
• It is critical for us to be seen as IT leaders on our
road to becoming our customer's favorite and most
trusted vendor

Bridging the CFO and CIO Gap
11
• The CFO and CIO need to meet in
the middle
• The CFO needs to take the time to
gain enough of an understanding of
the technology to grasp the value
• The CIO needs to be able to explain
tech in business and financial terms
that makes sense to the CFO
• In the end, you both want the
business to be more successful, so
a successful partnership is critical

We have had to reestablish a relationship
between the business and IT
As we have demonstrated value, interest in shadow IT has
diminished significantly
Without a CIO, shadow IT was the norm
