Tennis is 90 % Mental! (Jimmy
Connors)
• Player’s performance: PRACTISE ≥ or ≤ MATCH,
• Player controls pressure and stress,
• Player‘s Ideal Performance State - IPS (Weinberg, 1988); Ideal Zone of Functioning - IZOF (Hanin, 2003); In the Zone; Flow.
Underperformance in tennis• Many players very often underperform
in a match,• Reasons are mental (choking), • Player‘s anxiety level is not in optimal
zone (low/high arousal = underperformance),• IPS helps identify player‘s mental state
creating a balance between arousal and anxiety.

Successful coaches analyse players‘ performance• Chart matches (Apps),• Write notes,• Record matches (Video analysis),• Use modern technology (Polar, Playsight, Zenniz, Hawk-Eye...)• Discuss with player‘s their performance, …• Using conclusions for future planning and set up training
goals.
Help players to perform better1. To analyse player‘s performance in a
match,
2. To collect objective data of player‘s performance in a match,
3. To use collected data for planning.

Wristband as a new Coaching Tool
• During official tennis match,• Does not disturb a player,• Player‘s tactical, technical and mental
performance indicators,• Relation with effectiveness in a match.
Armbeep System
• Biometric Module,
• Tennis Match Notation App,
• Player‘s Personal Data Dashboard.
Biometric Module• Playing hand movement trajectories
(acceleration and gyro in x, y, z axis),
• Body and air temperature,
• Blood Oxygen Saturation (SPO2),
• Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
Dim. = 27 mm X 27 mm X 10 mmWeight = 9 g
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)• Heart Rate Variability is the
degree of fluctuation in the length of the intervals between heart beats (Malik & Camm, 1995), • Studies have shown that HRV one
of the most reliable indicators of stress,• Information about player‘s stress
level is a tool to control it.
Tennis Match Notation App
• Active & passive game phases,• Score,• Player‘s
Emotional Response (emoji).

Effort: I go for every ball, I try hard. Determined: I take every chance I get. Focus: My mind is on the game, I only think about the point which is being played right now.
Calm: My reactions are appropriate, I don't shout, throw racquet...
Prepared: I have a clear plan on how to play. Persistent: When my plan fails, I keep trying and looking for new solutions.
Reward: I encourage myself, reward myself for good points.

Player‘s Personal Data Dashboard
How collected data can help coach/player?• Count number of strokes per rally,• Identify stroke‘s type (90 %),• Measure and compare speed and path of the strokes (type,
practise/match, score),• Identify contact point quality,• Analyse player‘s workout on practise,• Measure, define and compare HRV (IPS).
Assist coach to set up training goals
In a 1st set was 67 % of the time in between points in IPS zone, In a 1st set won 87 % of rallies last more then 6 shots, In 1st set at 79 % of forehands had optimal contact point.
In 3rd set was 45 % of time in betwen points in IPS zone,In 3rd set after 38 % of losing points showed negative emotional response,In 3rd set average speed of backhands decreased for 13 km/h.
