Dear Parents and Carers,
A huge thank you to everyone for their support after our recent change in school leadership. It was a pleasure to talk
to so many of you at our recent Parent Consultation Evening this week and gain your views on our schools. We are
blessed with a wonderful environment and a really talented group of teachers and support staff who are determined
to provide the children with the education that they deserve. We will always strive towards further improvements
and as a result, you will see some changes being made both in our environment and in our practice. Your opinions
really count, so do please pass on your views to our wonderful Parent Council. We also get regular feedback from
pupils during School Council meetings. This allows us to move forward as effectively as possible.
We very much look forward to working in partnership with you all.
Ms S Simpson (Head of Schools) & Mr L McDonald (Deputy Head of Schools)

have asked for a basket for the Infant school; in the meantime, it is fine to leave donations with the Infant office staff.
March is a great time to look through your food cupboard; are there any in-date tins or packets that you will not use?
Please bring them in for our food basket.
At the moment Eastbourne Foodbank has an urgent need for:
· TINNED FRUIT

· TINNED MEAT
· UHT MILK
· TOMATO BASED PASTA SAUCE
THANK YOU for every single donation!
PARKING REMINDER
A gentle reminder that we ask you to be considerate when you are parking outside of our
school. Our neighbours are wonderful but at times find their driveways blocked and adults
parking on double yellow lines. From time to time, we do have visits from local traffic wardens,
so do please park legally at all times. Thank you!

MESSAGE FROM OUR FOPS TEAM
If you are having a spring clean; have any unwanted gifts, cuddly toys or have anything that would be suitable for an
adult or child tombola, please let us know, as any donation (in a new, or as new condition) will be gratefully received
for our summer fair.
We are busy collecting over 200 empty jars ready for the Summer Fair. So, please have a look through your recycling
and bring any clean jars into the Infant Office where we can collect them (anytime from now until the end of May).
Thank you.
Following our exciting Healthy Lifestyle week, Parkland Junior School voted on their favourite way to relax. The
winning activity was …
COLOURING !
All the classes participated in a “Relaxathon” – what a peaceful afternoon.
The children are now much more aware now of the importance of tackling childhood stress; some of the strategies
explored included:
· Talking about your worry – don’t bottle it up
· Get out on the fresh air and enjoy some exercise
· Eat healthy food
· Have a quiet time, away from phones and screens
· Escape in a good book
HEALTHY SNACKS
At the Parkland Federation, we work hard to educate the children about healthy
lifestyles. Being mindful, keeping active and eating well. At KS1 and EYFS, we provide
free fruit to our little ones. In KS2, we ask that children bring their own snacks for
playtime. These should be fruit or vegetable based only. No chocolate or crisps,
although these are fine for lunch boxes in small quantities. Please also ensure your
child has a bottle of fresh water each day in school in a clear bottle with a sports cap
lid. Hydration is the key to focus! Thank you for your support!
PHUNKY FOODS
This week’s recipe for our ‘Get fit, Get healthy, Have fun!’ with Phunky Foods is ‘Fish Pie’ Please see below for the recipe or copy the link to view it online
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/25493/family-friendly-fish-pie.aspx
We would love to hear how the recipes have encouraged your child to try new things.
Ingredients - Serves: 4
500g white fish (haddock, cod, plaice, etc.)
600ml milk
6 to 8 large potatoes
pinch salt
50g butter
1 1/2 tablespoons plain flour
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
100g grated cheese
METHOD : Prep:40min › Cook:40min › Extra time:10min cooling › Ready in:1hr 30min
Preheat oven to 200C / Fan 180C / Gas mark 5. Place the fish in an ovenproof dish and cover with the milk. Bake in the oven uncovered for 30 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
1. Peel and chop the potatoes, and boil with a pinch of salt until soft.
2. When the fish is done drain the milk into a jug and put aside. Flake the fish with a fork and leave in the dish.
3. Once potatoes are done, drain, then add 30g of the butter and a splash of the reserved milk and mash.
4. In another saucepan melt the remaining 20g of butter on a medium heat and slowly add the flour stirring constantly until you get a smooth paste.
5. Add the remaining milk a little bit at a time, stirring constantly, until you get a sauce-like consistency.
6. Add the parsley and stir well. Cook for 5 minutes, constantly stirring.
7. Add the sauce to the flaked fish and mix well. Top with the mashed potato and spread evenly. Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the potato topping.
8. Place back in the oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and slightly golden brown.
9. Take out of the oven and leave to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
10. Serve with fresh steamed vegetables.

World Book Day was a huge success, all of the children looked fabulous in their costumes. We had a day packed full of
fun! The children had one of their favourite stories read to them by a member of staff, a stop drop and read, a
Parkland Panto and to end the day we had Afternoon Tea with a book where the children could bring their families
into the hall after school and read together. It was a great day shared by all!
THE SMARTEST GIANT IN HAMPDEN PARK TOWN - PARKLAND INFANT PANTO!
A huge thank you to the Infant Team who wrote, produced and starred in their own version of a Julia Donaldson book.
The squeals of delight from the children were testament to how fabulous it was. We hope the children were inspired
to continue with reading at home at least three times a week.
THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM MISS WILSON
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all the gifts, cards and emails that you sent me before I left. I was incredibly
touched by the kind words of thanks and best wishes for my new role. Although I miss you all, I have been made to feel extremely
welcome at Shinewater and am settling in well. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Parkland, particularly the relationships that I built
with children, staff and parents and I knew this is what I would miss the most. However, I will look forward to seeing some of you
from time to time when I visit Parkland.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you all the very best for the future - I will be reading the
newsletter to find out about all the wonderful things you are achieving!
Miss Wilson
