* Full-range suppliers such as Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, or Sony are listed in the segment IFA Home Entertainment. These generally display their full range of products on a single stand. For example the product range of many full-range suppliers also includes mobile phones, TV panels and digital cameras which would otherwise be listed under IFA Communication and IFA My Media. From a statistical point of view it is not possible to split up figures for stands.
Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, Managing Partner, Miele, Germany
“In 2018, as at previous IFA events, the mood at Miele was excellent. The number of Trade Visitors and orders exceeded the previous year’s figures again. Product innovations met with very positive reactions from retailers and consumers.“

IFA 2018 Attendees
A number of methods have been employed to determine attendee distribution. They include voluntary information given by registered trade visitors. The information in this registration database is the most accurate on the core target group of trade visitors, international retailers and buyers.
Another standard is a survey to determine the share of trade visitors according to FKM guidelines, with more in-depth details of trade visitor distribution and representative statements on main areas of interest and levels of satisfaction. The survey is based on tablet-pad-assisted personal interviews and a follow-up online questionnaire. GfK – one of the world’s largest, fast growing fact-based consulting firms with deep roots in research and marketing science – conducted the survey onsite and the follow-up online. The results are particularly objective when compared with statements obtained in face-to-face interviews. The individual statistical sources are listed.

Chengdong (Richard) Yu CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group31 August 2018, 2 pm
The mobile industry is experiencing a renaissance of on-device capabilities, particularly in AI. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, shared his insights into the evolution of on-device AI. As industry players big and small are entering the field, devices across the price spectrum are including AI support among their features. However, many of these AI features remain primitive and are plagued by performance and efficiency problems. In addition, each smartphone manufacturer is moving into AI with its own standard for the nascent technology, widening the rift between platforms to the dismay of developers. In his keynote, Mr. Yu shared how more advanced mobile technology enhances the mobile user experience in gaming, AI and AR workloads, as well as his plans to standardize the AI developer environment with Huawei’s Hi AI platform.

“The thing that makes IFA+ Summit a think tank is that it’s in no means just tech hype as you might expect at Europe’s biggest fair for consumer and home appliance electronics. What we really heard was a very reflective analysis what these trends mean in terms of positive development and also in risks and things we need to be aware of.“

Kevin Warwick
His main research areas are artificial intelligence, biomedical systems, robotics, and cyborgs. Due to his research as a self-experimenter, he is frequently referred to as the world’s first Cyborg. Kevin was born in Coventry, UK, and left school to join British Telecom. He took his first degree at Aston University, followed by a PhD and research post at Imperial College London.Kevin’s own experiments will be used to show how implant and electrode technology can be used to create cyborgs: biological brains for robots, to enable human enhancement and to diminish the effects of neural illnesses. In each case, the result is to increase the abilities of the recipient. A vitally important part of this for humans is that their brain is linked directly into the internet, becoming an integral node. But will this mean empowerment for the individual or overall control by the intelligent network, or both?

6. SPECIAL EXHIBITION AREAS
IFA NEXT – The Edge of Innovation
IFA NEXT, the innovation showcase for start-ups, research institutions and enterprises, is in its second year, but has already nearly doubled in size. This year, the event had two stages, the Innovation Engines, for talks and demonstrations, covering a huge range of topics and events. In addition to R&D laboratories and leading global players, IFA NEXT 2018 featured some 144 start-ups from 27 countries, showcasing more innovation than ever before. The exhibits focused on the future topics such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Voice Recognition, Smart Living, VR & AR, Smart City, Future Mobility and Digital Health.
The “House of Smart Living” from ZVEI (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik und Elektronikindustrie e. V.), a reference installation for networked living, made the subject more distinct and tangible. From coffeemakers to digital media and energy management – they all understand verbal commands and machines capable of learning to work in the background automatically adapt installations to the user’s everyday routines. Together with its system partners, Amazon was contributing to the technology with audio and video systems, dishwashers and lighting system installations that respond to instructions and questions that start with the word “Alexa”.
Robots were another IFA NEXT topic that included several exhibits which invited visitors to have fun interacting with autonomous machines. Once again this year, company founders from around the world created a large exhibitor community with high creative potential.
Oliver Price, Principal Product Manager, AudioGum, UK
“Attending IFA has been really good for us as a business, and the team really enjoyed it. It was the first time we exhibited at IFA, it has been a fantastic opportunity. We have spoken to a lot of interesting people and a lot of potential customers.“

Virtual media worlds, living in smart cities, the future of mobility, robots in the household, voice commands, digital translators, the next generation of ultra-fast mobile networks and digital innovations for a healthier lifestyle – these are all topics that the IFA NEXT Innovation Engine featured on two stages in Hall 26.
With six days devoted to the themes: Digital Health, Wearables / Fitness & Activity, Smart Home, Future Mobility, Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality, Gadgets & Appliances, the German Startup Association set the tone for young entrepreneurs on every day of the show. Program highlights included a presentation of Future Living Berlin, a project in the Adlershof district of southeast Berlin where an entire urban quarter is being set up as a live experiment and an installation that sets standards for interconnected living. Energy management, communications, transport, intelligent mobility – all the topics focusing on innovation from the industries that are exhibiting at IFA are concentrated here. The organizers and their project partners included Panasonic, Digitalstrom and Schindler, an elevator specialist.
Paola Gabriele, Director of Operations, Hardware Club, France
