Bio-energy and wood fuel
The planting of new woodland can produce sustainable supplies of timber and , while helping to slow down the effects of climate change.

The term bio-energy means energy that comes from organic materials such as living plants. There is a lot of research into both the production and potential of bio-energy as a fuel and energy source that could equal or take over from the traditions of using oil and gas. This clearly has tremendous implications for day to day use, vehicles on the road, and running our homes and businesses.

Forestry Commission Scotland manages around a tenth of the country’s land mass and the forests and open land are ideal places for the possible development of wind farms and other renewable projects in a sensitive manner.
Many of Scotland's large-scale twentieth century hydro power developments have storage lochs that today provide an attractive setting for the national forest estate. Examples include Faskally, Rannoch, Tummel, Garry and Affric.
The main hydro power potential on the national forest estate is now for smaller run-of-river schemes.
Increasing the number of trees will help slow down our carbon footprint because it is a fact that trees take in carbon dioxide. Even when a tree is felled it still takes in carbon dioxide.
The facts prove this because Scotland’s forests take in about 15% of CO2 and in the whole of the UK the trees take in the emissions of 3 million cars!
If we plant many more trees then our carbon footprint will be made smaller and that really needs to happen.

ComparisonsWe have found that there are more similarities
than differences in our forests.
For example we have similar jobs in the forest use them in similar ways and both countries are
actively working on regeneration and conservation.
