Firehouse Subs knows success.

With more than 840 locations, growth and success have come easy

for Firehouse Subs®. And now with its early adoption of Apple PayTM

mobile wallet, Firehouse Subs is a leader in contactless payment

acceptance for the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry.

As a long-time Worldpay customer, Firehouse Subs participated in

the Apple Pay beta test for contactless payments by successfully

processing payment transactions in 52 restaurants across four

cities. The brand has 110 restaurants that can accept contactless

payment and are rolling out to their remaining locations in the fi rst

quarter of 2015.

What is Apple Pay? Apple Pay is a mobile wallet that allows customers to pay with their smartphone instead of a credit card. Users set

up their card information in Apple’s Passbook application, which securely stores tokenized data, but no payment card information. When

a customer wants to pay for goods in the store, they wave their iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in front of the Near Field Communication (NFC)-

enabled POS terminal and touch the biometric butt on to confi rm their identify through biometric fi ngerprint recognition technology.

This initiates the payment transaction, and the rest of the process is business as usual.

Why did Firehouse Subs want to off er contactless payments? They actively seek ways to simplify operations and enhance the overall

guest experience. Using Apple Pay allows them to do so. Now, Firehouse Subs remains competitive in a highly-engaged and evolving

industry.

What changes were necessary for their integrated payment system? To enable contactless payments for mobile wallets,

Firehouse Subs had to make two changes: First, they installed new NFC-enabled customer-facing PINpads. Second, they made an

update to their POS application, adding a PINpad driver with a new entry mode for RFID payments.

The results of the contactless payment beta test are in – and they are good. The user experience is simple, easy and fast. Customers

know how to use Apple Pay. Cashiers love it. It is easy to use – no extra action is required.

“Firehouse Subs is excited to be an early adopter of contactless payment, and we look forward to enabling our entire restaurant chain in

early 2015”, said Jeremy Gibeault, Senior IT Manager for Firehouse Subs.
