FishingSteuben County is an anglers paradise. With 101 lakes that vary
in depth, size and structure, just about every variety of fresh watershing can be enjoyed here.
There are scores of different sh to go after in Steuben County. There is a very strong native sh population, plus the IndianaDepartment of Natural Resources stocks many of the lakes andstreams in the county.
If theres any one constant to Steuben County, its the lakes
and the shing that occurs on them. All year long anglers can be spotted out on the lakes,
either in boats, watching their lines, or standing above a hole cutthrough the ice.
If you want to go for pan-sh, just about every lake in the countysupports strong populations of sunsh, blue gill and crappie. Thereare perch in almost every lake, too. So, if you want to catch a messof sh for dinner or provide the little ones with hours of shingexcitement, just about every lake will sufce.
Steuben Countys lakes are also well known for their basspopulations. Many tournament anglers seek out the coves, shorelinestructure and weed beds for large mouth bass. There are also some
decent spots to sh for smallies, too.Like something a little larger? Well, there are plenty of spots to
give a try for northern pike or walleye, both through open waterand the ice. In fact, the state record pike came out of Clear Lake innortheastern Steuben County. That sh weighed just over 30 pounds!
At Ball Lake you will nd a nice population of trophy-sizedTiger Muskie.
If trout shing is more your style, we have a number of spotsto toss a y or hook a kernel of corn in hopes of a rainbow. Troutpopulations can be found in Clear Lake and Lake Gage and also in
Pigeon River.Lake James can supply about every type of shing imaginable, except for trout. Theres also good shing at Crooked, Snow andHamilton lakes. If you prefer a smaller lake, try Fox, Pigeon, Ball andMarsh to name just a few.
If you need advice on which lake to sh and for what, just ask anylocal bait dealer. They are always willing to share a little advice andusually know whats biting and where.
In addition, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources offersinformation through its web site at www.in.gov/dnr/shwild. Makesure you have a valid Indiana shing license if applicable beforeyou go shing on one of our lakes.

ANGOLAYou'll love our newlyrenovated DowntownShopping District!
Illustration of New Median along US 20
(Maumee Street)
Welcome toDowntown Angola!Downtown Angola, Indiana has always
been a special place. As the county seat of
Steuben County, it is home to the Courthouse
and has been a place of business and commerce
for well over a century. It still retains a great deal
of this prominence, both as a hub for business
and government as well as a crossroadsfor transportation.
Downtown Angola is thecrossroads for the Tri-State Area.In the summer of 2010 Downtown Angolacompleted a long planned restoration. This projecthas enhanced pedestrian safety and improved thedowntown shopping experience. The new bricklined sidewalks, park benches and garbage bins, curbed medians and planters lled with owers, foliage and shrubbery all create a charmingbackground for the downtown shopping district.
