It’s time for our beautiful poinsettias to come down from the altar. They are looking for nice homes. Feel free to take a poinsettia after the 11am Mass this weekend.
In response to many reports of cold and flu illness throughout the region, the Archdiocese of Boston has decided to eliminate
the distribution of the Precious Blood within the Archdiocese until further no-
tice.
It has come to our attention that a Robocall has gone around, in which the caller states she is from the St. Mary’s prayer center ministry. We are not affiliated with this. Our St. Mary’s has a wonderful prayer line that has been in existence for years with wonderful volunteers who will pray for anyone who needs prayers. If you know someone who should be added to this prayer line, please call Pat Evans at 543-2166.

Baptism of the Lord Some events are so significant they can serve two purposes, bring to a close one era and open a new chapter in our life. Weddings, funerals, graduations, an out of state move or a conversion to a new belief or way of life splits life in two: before and after. Once the change takes place, there is no turning back as one chapter is written and another presents a blank page. The Baptism of Jesus ends one phase of His life and opens another. He leaves behind a life of relative obscurity and be-gins openly preaching the Gospel message. Heralded by John, Jesus begins the phase of His life that will lead Him to preach, teach, heal and forgive and then end in the horror and sorrow of His passion and death on the cross. He carried the hopes of Israel and of the whole human race. Our Baptism is similar to the Lord’s. We end one phase of life and enter into a new relationship with God and with each other. The promises of our Baptism, made for us by our families and which we renew each Easter, open for us the chap-ter of our vocation, our mission to teach, preach, heal and forgive. There is no turning back. The Lord calls us to live a life of faith. And the best chapters are yet to be written.

“Jesus Wept.” John 11:35
From the time that we were young kids growing up in Dorchester receiving First Communion, through our marriage, as we brought up our own four boys, and now as grandparents, Boston priests have been a guiding light that we reach out to in different situations that have come up in our lives. As parents, our faith life has helped us to guide our family. We are an ordinary family, and, like all families, things don’t always go smoothly. The priests we have known through the years, like Fr. Peter Martocchio, have helped us to learn to take things in stride and put our faith in God, and that there is always hope. While not perfect, ours has been a wonderful life, which has been enriched by many Boston priests who have helped us along the way.
