Please note that Camp Joshua 2020 has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
****************** GOD’S WORDS
Each day we are bombarded with thousands of words. From the moment our clock radios click on in the
morning, until the last moment of the day when the television is turned off or someone bids
us “good-night,” our life is filled with words. Some words that we hear bring news that leaves us feeling
low. Some words lift our spirits. Many of the words we hear are trying to get us to buy something. Some words are hurtful. Today the Church focuses our attention on hearing the word of God. Are God’s words just more of the same—part of the endless stream of words that flow into our ears each day? The challenge today is to allow God’s word to inspire us in new ways so that our
outlook and attitudes align themselves more closely with the heart and mind of Christ Jesus.

ST. BERNARD LIBRARY
Watch this space for information about our library and the inspiring books offered there. The library is open for browsing whenever the hall is open. Contact us at: [email protected],
or call Linda Hoppers (616-0268) if you are looking for a particular book or author or simply have questions about the library. This month’s reading is: “Letters to a Young Catholic” by George Weigel.
“Letters to a Young Catholic” is a 2004 “spiritual memoir-cum-travelogue” by American author and social activist George Weigel. The book comprises a series of essays on Catholic thought and practice aimed at an
intelligent teenage or young adult reader with some existing knowledge of Catholicism.
Weigel argues that an important part of Catholicism is the experience of Catholic places, both sacred sites and everyday places in the lives of ordinary Catholics. For this reason, each of the book’s essays is rooted in a
particular geographical place, or in some cases two places.
He takes readers on a journey from Maryland to Europe and Israel, visiting sites that are whimsical (G.K. Chesterton’s favorite pub) as well as those that are renowned as holy (the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem,
St. Peters Basilica in Rome). In a conversational style, Weigel gives detailed descriptions of each place before turning to an area of Catholic belief or practice that for him is embodied in the place.
Each essay is interlaced with stories, some of them about prominent Catholic figures, and others drawn from Weigel’s own life as a practicing Catholic. Each essay concludes by considering
the Biblical teaching of Jesus.

Spend an hour with the Lord this summer. Hours are open and ready for you. No waiting! What are you waiting for?
Now is the perfect time to take an adoration hour, or volunteer as a sub. The adoration chapel is like your own room, quiet and fully air conditioned all summer. You can
sit and listen to the Lord speak directly to you, or design your own spiritual carefree time: pray, read or just relax; it is a personal hour. Only God knows how you spend it. Look at Him in the monstrance. He is there with you. He is the perfect friend. Get to know each other. God probably enjoys the air conditioning too! To volunteer for an hour
of adoration, please call the office at 855-9069.
