Spirax Strainers
For over six decades, Forbes Marshall
has been building steam engineering
and control instrumentation solutions
that work for process industry. Today
we have evolved into a leader in
process efficiency and energy
conservation through technology tie-
ups and focused investments in
manufacturing and research. Our joint
ventures with the world's leading
names enable us to deliver quality
solutions in 14 countries. Forbes
Marshall is probably the only company
in the world to have extensive
expertise in both steam and control
instrumentation. The dual expertise
has allowed us to engineer industry
specific systems that focus on energy
efficiency and utilities management for
sectors as diverse as textiles, food
processing, paper, power and
chemicals.
Our business practices and processes
have combined into a singular
philosophy of being trusted partners
who provide innovative solutions. It's a
philosophy we are proud to live up to.
Forbes Marshall began 60 years ago as
a company offering steam generation
solutions in association with Spirax
Sarco of the UK who are world
leaders in steam engineering and
energy conservation.
Today, Spirax Marshall itself ranks
amongst the five leading steam energy
conservation firms world-wide. We
offer the widest range of steam
engineering products in the industry:
steam traps and trap monitors,
condensate pumps and flash vessels,
pressure and temperature controls,
clean steam, heat-exchange solutions,
boiler-house products and meters,
manifolds and pipeline connectors,
piston valves and disc-check valves,
and all steam accessories. Our
products have provided the
benchmark for Indian process industry
for over 60 years.
Y-STRAINER
Engineered by Spirax Marshall using Computional Fluid Dynamics, these are ideally suited for steam and condensate. A correctly designed Y - strainer is necessary, as otherwise the pressure drop becomes high. Often a low priced strainer is a result of undersizing - thereby leading to high pressure drop and pre-mature failure.

BASKET / BUCKET STRAINERS
Basket type strainers are widely used to remove foreign particles and debris from flowing liquids. They offer considerably lesser pressure drop than T- strainers and therefore ideal for liquid applications especially with higher amount of unwanted particles.

PRESSURE DROP (millibar)
Pressure Drop Correction Factor
For finer mesh screens that are backed with a perforated sheet, multiply
the pressure drops shown above by the following
40 mesh x 1.2
60 mesh x 1.4
80 mesh x 1.6
100 mesh x 1.7
200 mesh x 2.05
300 mesh x 2.5
For 50% clogged condition, pressure drop shall be 2 times the above values
Pressure Drop Formula
2ms = 12 kv P 1-5.67 (0.42 -x)1
ms = Mass Flowrate
kv = Flow Co-efficient
x = Pressure Drop ratio P - P1 2
P1
P = Upstream pressure in bar absolute1
P = Down Stream pressure in bar absolute2
Equation can be re-arranged
DP = P 0.42 - 1 1
