SHOWJUMPING, heavy horses, dog agilitydisplays and a donkey show drew thousandsof people to the Ellingham and RingwoodShow on Saturday.
Events in the main arena included a fal-conry display and shire horses, and the mar-quee offering home-made produce was alsopopular at the family event held at SomerleyPark.
Animals and their owners could take partin a fancy dress competition while youngervisitors enjoyed stroking the animals in thepetting zoo and looking at the birds, spidersand snakes in the raptor and reptile mar-quee.
Delicious and quirky cakes, breads andscones were on show for the produce classes.
Show spokesman Michael Lingam-Willgosssaid: “We thought we were going to be hit bythe storm but we had this wonderful windowwhere we didn’t have any rain at all.
“It was a glorious day. We had lots of chil-
dren and families come down. We were inun-dated with people saying what a fantasticshow it was.”
The 72-year-old, who has helped organisethe show for the last 40 years, said between20,000 and 22,000 people are thought to haveattended the event.
The Ellingham and Ringwood AgriculturalSociety is a registered charity and donatesthousands of pounds to good causes eachyear.
Mr Lingam-Willgoss said last year the soci-ety awarded £30,000 to various local charitiesand groups including the BournemouthLeukaemia Fund, the 3rd Ringwood ScoutGroup, Hampshire and Isle of Wight AirAmbulance, Forest Holme Hospice andRotary clubs.
