Hey!
This month is all about what is involved with being a girl!
In this issue of SEVENTEEN GREEK EDITION, we will cover all of the hot-
test trends, the best new hairstyles, pretty jewelry, and how to do amazing make-
up that will accent your face in all of the best ways.
As co-editor of SEVENTEEN GREEK EDITION, I find that a big part of being
a girl is being able to gossip and hearing all the gossip of the gods, so I have in-
cluded some of the juiciest stories that are floating around Olympus.
Many of my lady interns have mentioned that they enjoyed the horoscopes that
we included in the last issue and I received many letters from readers saying that
they enjoyed them as well, so we have thrown in a page dedicated to what’s going
to happen in your social life this August.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as our staff of writers have enjoyed
creating it.
XOXO

Yesterday was a beautiful day, not only because of the rays of sun shining through the tree branches, or the birds flying around and chirping, but because yesterday was the day that Athene and Arachne had the big contest of who could weave better. What was the meaning of all of this you may ask? Well, after having an exclu-sive interview with Arachne herself yesterday I collected enough information to hopefully shed some light on the situation at hand.
“Yesterday,” she told us, “I was sitting at home with my weaving when all of the sudden I had a slip of the tongue.” After asking her what she meant by that she told me that she had bragged that her weaving was better than Athene’s herself. Needless to say this was a ter-rible thing to have said and before she knew it Athene herself was knocking on her door.
Athene decided to spare her life as long as she agreed to compete in a weaving contest that was to be judged by local town’s people. People came from far and wide to witness the unthinkable. A contest between god and mortal.
It was agreed by all that Arachne would be the first to weave the best that she could, and her piece was just fabulous. The picture began with the image of two children, a girl and a boy, together. The image then continued to show the life that these two had together. When the vil-lage people saw her masterpiece they were filled with joy and they loved it.
Then, it was Athene’s turn and nobody believed that she would be able to win after the cloth that Arachne had just created before their eyes. Athene set to work. She wove scenes that humans had never seen before, they were scenes from Olympus. Her pictures consisted of the war between Zeus and Cronos and her violent birth from Zeus’s head.
The cloth that was woven from Athene’s loom depressed the town folk and depressed Arachne, who knew that she had lost to this beautiful piece of artwork. She went to a tree down the hill side and she hung herself. After Athene went to see Arachne, the girl disap-peared. Some people think that Athene person-ally escorted the girl’s body and soul to Hades in the underworld; others think that Athene burned the body in further hatred for the bragging girl; however, here at SEVENTEEN MAGAZINE we happen to know the truth. When Athene saw the girl dangling from the rope she took pity on her and decided to do something. She trans-formed the girl into a black bug-like creature who spins webs that are much like the cloths that Arachne loved so much to weave and Athene then told the creature that now nobody could ever compete with it’s weaving. Dear Atalanta,
I am having some boy problems.
My husband keeps leaving the
house really late at night. I’m only
15 and just got married, but I’m
not sure what he’s doing out at
this hour. Is he cheating? Should
I be worried? Thanks!
-Young and Confused
_________________________
Dear Young and Confused,
The only way to solve this problem
is to confront him directly. Simply
ask your new husband what he’s
doing out that late. He can’t be an-
gry with you just for asking! If I
were you I would also be curious,
and I understand your suspicions.
Give him the benefit of the doubt
until you get a complete an-
swer. Try saying something like,
“I realized you were out late last
night, is everything okay?” This
should spark a conversation relat-
ing to your problems. Good luck!
-Atalanta
Dear Atalanta,
I really like this guy, and he would
make a great husband, but my par-
ents don’t approve of him! I’m al-
ready 18 and I need to get mar-
ried soon! Do you have any advice?
-Not so Young and in Love
_________________________
Dear Not so Young and in Love,
I know exactly how you feel. Your
parents may not approve of your
husband-to-be, but I have a few
tips on how to lighten the situa-
tion. First of all, I would have a
long talk with your parents. Make
sure that they know all of the
good things about him, and how
good of a person I’m sure he
is. Stay positive! I’m sure Aphro-
dite will work everything out. Good
luck!

There are so many different
ways to decorate your dwelling, but
some are so obviously better than
others.
In order to be sure that I in -
clude everything that there is to need
to have a beautiful dwelling I ’ m go -
ing to just walk through a normal day
and give some tidbits on some of the
more elegant accessories.
To start off the day you can eat
your wine soaked bread on a white
plate with rare designs that will be
sure to impress anyone invited to eat
at your table. To go father into ta -
bles, a nice dark wood table will make
your andron look sleek and clean. A
great mosaic will be a fabulous addi -
tion to any andron.
For when you are cleaning your
house in the morning a new edition of
the palm frond brush with a longer
handle to sweep your floors.
Having the empty tinted walls
lined with vases and pottery will give
a more caring, warm sense to the
place that people often visit.
One must have the andronitis
properly furnished with the necessities
such as a table and chairs, which
should both be of matching wood and
should be comfortable to sit upon. A
fantastically furnished andronitis will
also have a number of pots and vases
with intricate detail.
The many rooms are all cen -
tered around the courtyard, so that
should be the main focus of your
house along with the andronitis. A
great courtyard has a bocce ball court
and many lounge chairs as well as a
fountain with a bathing tub.
I hope this helps you as you
start to shop for these essential pieces
of furniture!

We have a story that will knock off
your boots! The nymphs of the west have
shared with us a story that nobody will be-
lieve! A mere mortal named Perseus has set
off to fulfill a promise to a king that is abso-
lutely outrageous.
Perseus and his mother were set a sail
in a ship by his mother’s father. Her father
met an oracle and was told that if her daughter
was to have a son her son would be strong
enough to kill him. Her father could not let
that happen. So when Perseus’s mother be-
came pregnant he set them both a sail in a boat
hoping that they both would survive and make
it to another land.
When they came to another land the
king of the area demanded that they be taken
care of, for the king had planned to marry the
beautiful young maiden. When they became
engaged much to the dislike of both Perseus
and his mother, Perseus who had heard of her
many times, promised to give the king Me-
dusa’s head as a wedding gift. Everybody
knew how impossible the task was, little did
they know, Perseus’s father was a god.
Perseus was brothers with Hermes who
he asked for a pair of winged shoes and direc-
tions to the place where Medusa was hidden
away by her sisters.
When Hermes told him he set off on
his way and met with the nymphs of the west,
who he told of his journeys. When he finally
left them behind they wished him good luck.
His travels are still a mystery and while
he continues on his journey we wait to see
what will happen. How will the story end?

Jewelry is a must have in any girl’s wardrobe. It can turn any boring chiton or himation into a complete and beautiful outfit. So what’s this season’s hottest jewelry trends? Well, according to fashion designer Calypsa Brygus, this fall is all about gold.
The writers at Seventeen especially like gold bangles and bracelets. You can pair this kind of jewelry with almost any outfit and it will always look great! You can ask your jew-eler to add bits of enamel for a pop of color here and there. Keep in mind that you don’t want to go overboard with jewelry. Keep it simple and pretty.
If you can’t afford gold, bronze has an equally good appearance. Though it may not have the same appeal as real gold, it will do. Remember, you are going to be buried with your jewelry, so choose wisely!
Our researchers recommend a stack of simple gold bangles, or you could even over-lap those with a thicker bracelet. Jewelry that includes animals, such as snakes, gives a unique touch to your look. The choices are endless! Just keep an open mind and you can work wonders with your jewels. Written by Aspasia Theronos

Braided, Made-up, and Put
Together: The Ins and Outs of Hair and Makeup
So many readers have been asking
what the hottest new hair and makeup ideas
are. Well, after an interview with hair and
makeup artist Platonia Mysia, we have all the
answers.
You want to keep your cosmetics light.
Make sure that your makeup looks natural and
like you have stayed in the shade. Hercules
won’t like a tan girl! The paler the better. Pla-
tonia told us that you can grind up some char-
coal and mix it with olive oil for eye shadow
and contrast. This will work with any color of
eyes. If your lips get chapped and dry, simply
apply some beeswax.
Makeup should be kept to a minimum.
It is meant to enhance your look, not cover it
up. So have fun experimenting with these new
ideas!
There are a countless number of fresh
new hairstyles to try. From braids to hair pins,
we’re sure there’s something for you..
Braids are mostly used for girls with
longer hair. When you have long hair, it is es-
sential to braid it so it stays out of your face.
To braid, alternate 3 sections of hair and tie at
the end. Be sure that your braids frame your
face nicely. Add some pins for an extra touch.
For short or medium hair, headbands
are the best way to go. Simply part your hair
down the middle and place a gold or silver
headband at the crown of your head. Easy!
Hair and Makeup
Keeping up with
the latest hair and
makeup trends is
both fun and re-
warding. Whether
your hair is of
short, medium, or
long length, we are
sure that one of
these styles will
work for you. By
using gold or silver
headpieces, you
can add sparkle to
your medusa locks.
Pretty new makeup
ideas will also add
to your look.

Breaking news came to us just mo-
ments ago. A huge story has exploded in the
face of society. We all know the plant goddess
Persephone, but where has she disappeared to?
The fields have been lacking of flowers for
weeks now and we must wonder what has hap-
pened to this beautiful girl.
A little village boy came to me and told
me that he had seen a gorgeous young maiden
skipping through the forest with a paint can.
She stopped to rip a bush out of the ground,
and when she did a huge hole opened up and a
black chariot with black horses and a large
frightening man came and grabbed her.
There’s only one god who would have done
such a thing = Hades.
At the end of the day the boy ran off to
play again and when he didn’t come back I
worried that Hades had grabbed him as well.
When I started to ask people where he was, a
little bird told me that she had seen him get
turned into a lizard and fed to a hawk by De-
meter for mocking her sorrow. Demeter is the
goddess of earth and she was also Perseph-
one’s mother.
The bird also shared with me that De-
meter soon realized that it had been Hades that
had nabbed her precious little darling and she
became enraged. She immediately went to see
Zeus at Olympus.
Zeus ruled that if Persephone had not
eaten any food, she would return to her
mother, but if she had eaten even a morsel of
food she would remain in the underworld.
Meanwhile, Persephone was enjoying
herself immensely with her Uncle Hades.
However, she refused to let a single grain of
food pass though her lips. She had met a new
friend while she stayed in the belly of the
earth. He was a completely normal boy except
that his eyes looked like they were that of a
lizard.
This boy new that if she ate anything
she would have to stay and he set out to con-
vince her to eat something to get back at her
mother. One day he was eating pomegranate
seeds and he got her to eat 6 seeds.
Zeus then ruled that she would have to
stay with Hades for 6 months every year. She
had to stay one month for every seed she ate.
Now every time the six months roles
around that Persephone must stay with Hades,
Demeter has said she will refuse to grow any-
thing.
I would like to personally thank Or-
pheus who shared with me all of the details of
the story that progressed in the underworld.
I’m sorry to hear about your wife.

As we all know, the clothing we wear is very sim-ple. It can be styled and restyled to fit whatever occasion it calls for. Lately, draping seems to be very in. There are so many styles and ways to drape your garments. The possibili-ties seem endless!
Even if you don’t have a lot of money, your sim-ple chiton can be transformed into a stunning and well put together outfit. You must only learn the art of draping.
Here are the steps to draping over one shoulder:
First, wrap your cloth around your waist at least once, and then pin it at the waist. Then throw the rest of the material over one shoulder, pull it around to the front, and then pin again.
One way to make the design above a little bit more elegant is to wrap the material around your waist several more times toward the end. It may take some more time, but it’s worth it!
Seems easy, right? That’s just the basic design, there are so many other variations. If you need any further help, ask your mom or sister. If that doesn’t work, you could always write in to Seventeen, We’d be glad to help!
Have any other ideas for draping? Pictures? Please send them to 115 Pantheon Street, Athens, Greece. We would really appreciate your ideas!

Seventeen had an exclusive interview
with Aphrodite herself. It seems like more and
more girls are complaining about their ar-
ranged marriages lately, so we though Aphro-
dite would be the perfect girl to interview.
Based on the questions we asked her, we wrote
this article on how to cope with your arranged
marriage.
We know it’s difficult to stay with
someone you barely know, but it is necessary.
So here are some ways to deal with your ar-
ranged marriage.
·Always remember that your parents care
about you, and they arranged your marriage to
the best of their knowledge. They know what is
best for you in the long run.
·Your husband is probably off working most of
the time, so you won’t have to be with him all
the time.
·Your husband could be twice your age at this
point. You may still be maturing, so give your
relationship some time.
·Chances are your husband loves you very
much. If he provides for you and treats you
well, then try not to complain. Stay positive!
Maybe liking your husband isn’t an
issue at all. You might not even have a hus-
band yet! Maybe your parents didn’t arrange a
marriage. If that is the case, then here are some
tips on how to get a husband.
·Always make sure that you are sweet and per-
sonable around the guy you like. Never criti-
cize him and have a good attitude.
·
Make sure to show him your motherly quali-
ties. Your husband will divorce you if you can’t
be a good mother or bear children.
·Just be yourself. Being someone you aren’t
can only cause problems later in the relation-
ship.
Don’t worry too much about love. It
will find you in the end. Just keep your chin up
and hope for the best!

An atrocious performance was
put on with director, Diokles Mysia.
Oedipus was played by the infamous
Heron Propitia. Cleon Philippia and
Nike Calliope also starred in what must
have been one of the worst perform-
ances in Heron’s career in acting.
The play started out with rough
memorization and a fair amount of nerv-
ousness, but towards the end of the first
act the actors all began to mellow out.
They seemed to have fun doing their
performance with their poorly made
props and last minute costumes.
Although the play was terrible
and the ads were misleading, there were
a couple good parts to it. The acting
done by the old man was okay, but still
not worth seeing twice. And admittedly
the gouging out of Oedipus’s eyes was
totally convincing. At least one viewer
looked like they could not stomach the
realism.
Overall, the performance was
sketchy and a total disgrace to the direc-
tor, prop manager, and the theatre itself.

Diets and appetites are a big concern
with women and girls everywhere. All across
Greece mothers are asking themselves, “How
can I lose the weight that I gained while being
pregnant?” Well, now we have the answer.
With the appropriate amount of exercise dur-
ing the day along with a regulated diet and
soon the pounds will be just melting off.
Many married women and girls still
have the problem, “How can I exercise without
my husband noticing?” The truth is, you don’t
need to go out and run around the village eight
or nine times. Instead, when you clean and you
find yourself all the way across the hut from
your broom jog to it rather than walk.
There are also many other ways of get-
ting a better workout when doing house
chores:
You can jump up and down while you scrub
the dishes.
You can jog back and forth as you sweep.
OR
You can even dance as you cook.
Unfortunately, exercise is not the only
thing you have to do. You also have to eat bet-
ter and possibly considerably less than you
may be eating right now.
As a hard working wife and mother of
3 children, I know that after a busy day of
cooking and cleaning that there is nothing bet-
ter than to build up your energy by eating a
large meal. This is possibly the hardest thing
to change in your lifestyle: eating habits.
One way to do this is to let your food
stay in you mouth as long as possible, this
gives the illusion that you are eating more than
you really are. No matter how you choose to
do it, the real trick to losing weight is tricking
your body into thinking that you’re doing one
thing, when really you’re doing something
else.
So good luck and remember this is
something that you can choose to do for your-
self, but you are beautiful inside and out no
matter how much you weigh in the end.
