Bruno Dumas Dr. Maurizio Rigamonti Dr. Denis Lalanne
Bruno Dumas – 31.03.2010
Domain Overview (1) 2
Computer-Supported Cooperative Work Sometimes also known as « Groupware »
^ Software… ^ … That accentuates a multiple user environment (group)
Computers are seen as means, not the end! Focus on human-human interaction rather than
“direct” human-computer interaction ^ (even if both are indeed linked in CSCW)
Baecker, R.M.; Others, (1995). Readings in human-computer interaction: toward the year 2000. Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, p. 741.
Bruno Dumas – 31.03.2010
Domain Overview (2)
Multidisciplinary field ^ Psychology, sociology, computer science, economics…
(and a good deal of HCI, too)
Also, « Work » is misleading ^ Applications to interactive art, sport, video games, etc.
Yet, lots of challenges are common, and identified ^ Tasks interdependencies management ^ Common information space management ^ Mutual awareness understanding ^ Need for flexibility
