Hearts Strangely Warmed
Yesterday was Aldersgate Day (May 24). That is the day we
remember John Wesley’s “heart strangely warmed”
experience. I’ll let John tell you about it himself from his
journal.
In the evening I went very unwillingly to a society in
Aldersgate Street, where one was reading Luther’s preface to
the Epistle to the Romans. About a quarter before nine, while he was describing
the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart
strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation; and an
assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved
me from the law of sin and death.
This experience of Wesley’s is often described as a secondary salvation
experience for him. Wesley was already a Christian, in fact he was a priest in the
Anglican Church, but he had not experienced the forgiving grace of God in his
heart.
He had spent too many years trying to live up to a certain standard, thinking that if
only he were good enough, God would accept him and love him. Have you been
there? But the Bible reminds us that it isn’t our works that save us, but only our
faith in Jesus.
Reread the words from Wesley and ask yourself this question, “Do I trust in Jesus
alone for salvation?”
I hope you know with all your heart that Christ is the one to take away your sins
and He is the only one that can save you.
I pray that you have experienced that warmth and joy of God’s salvation. And I
encourage you to spend this day praying for all of those you come in contact with,
that they too would experience the forgiving love of God.
May we be a people whose hearts are warmed for Christ. I look forward to seeing
you Sunday.
God Bless!

Hello Everyone,
I have to say our church is fantastic!!! The past several
weeks the youth department has received a significant
amount of help and support. In April and May we had
two very successful youth missions fundraisers. Our
success was in large part due to the help we received
from the United Methodist Women. The UMW cooked
enough groceries to allow the students to make 300
burritos for our May fundraiser. Also in May the FUMC
Men’s League built a new gaga ball pit for the students.
We also had several adults and students help decorate
the fellowship hall and serve breakfast to the 2016
graduates. That same weekend several adult
volunteers helped make sure we had a fantastic time at
Ceta Canyon for our sixth grade promotion party. To all
those who help make the youth ministry at FUMC a
huge success, THANK YOU!!!
During the summer break the youth ministry will have a
different schedule of events. We will NOT have our
regular Wednesday night youth worship service (The
Uprising) or Sunday Night Fellowship (SNF). We WILL
continue to meet on Sunday morning at 10:10 for small
group discussion (Arise). Starting Sunday June 5th, Will
Miller will lead a discussion at Arise on the topic of
MONEY. During the summer we are encouraging the
students to follow the 2016 Bible Reading & Prayer
Guide. The guides are available at the church welcome
desk. We are then inviting students to meet for lunch
on Tuesdays, starting June 14th, to discuss the reading
from the previous week and answer any questions. We
will also have randomly scheduled fun and fellowship
events throughout the summer. To stay informed about
upcoming events I encourage all parents and students
to sign up for our FREE text updates. To sign up for the
updates simply text “@youthrise” to 81010. Below are

Thank You Note Another semester down—YAY!!! Thank you so much for the goodie box. The snacks and nice note is so nice to get when you are feeling so stressed about life and all the tests you are having to study for. Thank you for the prayers and goodies! What a great church family. Blessings,
Sierra Ybarra
Thank you to the Men’s League that completed the ‘Gaga pit” if you have not heard of ‘gaga’ ball - it is a
tamed version of dodgeball. The youth and children will enjoy hours of fun times with
this new addition.
Thank you to Robin Chandler for getting/planting the flowers and pots to spruce up the east entrance of the building. What a beautiful addition to that entrance of the
building.

Canyon Intermediate
School Adopt a Staff
Member Ministry
As you know our church
adopted the Canyon
Intermediate School
this past year. We
wanted to let you know
a few of the things our church has done to bless this
school throughout the year. In August we held a tail gate
party with all proceeds benefiting the school. During the
school year we have taken the staff banana bread and
coffee from Palace, cookies and tea from Pure Water,
homemade scones and Palace coffee, a full Mexican
lasagna lunch, and this past Monday we brought them
breakfast tacos and homemade cinnamon rolls. The
positive response to this program has been tremendous.
Appreciation goes a long way and people never tire of
hearing positive words of encouragement.
The school year is coming to a close and that means it is
time to take a break from delivering notes of appreciation
and goodies to the staff of Canyon Intermediate School.
We will be taking the months of June and July off from
sending goodies to the school. However, we encourage
you to continue to pray for your staff member.
In the fall we will start back up again. If you did not get a
chance to participate in the spring, please consider
joining this ministry in the fall. Sign-ups will begin in
August. If you participated this past spring, please call the
church office (655-2851) or email Sarah at
([email protected]) and let her know if you
would like to keep the same staff member you adopted in
January, change to a different staff member, or take a
break.
We could not have done this without the support and
willingness of FUMC. Thank you for helping us with this
ministry!
Blessing to you,
Cat Enns, Jessica Sattler, and Sarah Tirey
Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers
to deliver meals in Canyon. Volunteers
drive one day of the week every week for
the entire month-either odd or even
months. Shifts start at 11am and are
over before noon. They are in desperate need of a driver
for Tuesdays especially right now. People interested in
more information may contact Lisa Boehning at 433-
4405.
In His Hands 4/5 preschool had a career day on May 5th. The kids got to
travel from class to class to learn about different jobs in the community. We had a coach, the postmaster, a youth pastor and children's pastor, an engineer, and nurse. The kids learned so much and had a wonderful
time.
Coach Lombard came and talked to the 4/5 preschool classes about being a coach. He let them try on the medals, hold the trophy, try on a
jersey, ran a few ball handling drills, gave each kiddo a basketball, and ended with a huddle! It was a wonderful
day for these kids!
Mr. Wigham, a mechanical engineer and instructor at WT, came and talked to the classes about engineers. The kids then were 'structural engineer' and built
towers that could hold an apple on top.
As the school year comes to an end, we will be promoting
up for children and youth on Sunday, June 5. The current
6th graders going to 7th grade met some of our youth and
took a fun trip to Ceta Canyon.
