With the current SAP BW Release 7.40 a new way of modeling the BW objects was introduced with the SAP BW modeling tools. Now with the Release SAP BW 7.40 SR2 (based on SPS08) it is also possible to model a new central object called advanced data store objects (aDSO). To enable the Backend and Frontend functionality there are certain steps necessary to enable the end to end usage. This SAP First Guidance Document consolidates all these activities from an implementation perspective. SAP BW 7.50 SP01 and SP04 is adding much more additional functionality, e.g. the feature complete BEx usage with the latest BW-MT tools. The BW-MT are mandatory for the usage with BW/4HANA. The Document is “work in progress” and not intended to be exhaustive, but it contains everything to successfully implement the BW-MT together with BW-aDSO.

SAP First Guidance … Implementation BW-MT for BW-aDSO

1. Introduction
With SAP BW 7.40 a lot of new functionality is introduced. The Release 7.40 also introduces new areas
which are made exclusively for the usage of SAP BW together with the SAP HANA database.
For details of the complete overview of the possibilities of SAP BW 7.40 RS2 (based on SPS08) see the
Document in the SCN - Overview SAP BW 7.4 SR2 (based on SPS08) and further Roadmap and the Blog -

Details of the scope for the advanced DSO (and BW7.4 SP08 in general) can be found here:
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-58173 => see "Release of SAP BW 7.4 SP8" page 11 et seq.

2. Implementation
2.1 Backend Upgrade Considerations Overall Presentation for the Upgrade - Upgrade to SAP Business Warehouse 7.40
Note 1751237 - Add. Info about the update/upgrade to SAP NetWeaver 7.4 (incl. SPs and SRs)
2.1.1 From 7.40 SP07 to SP08 (SR2) As the SAP BW 7.40 SP08 is as well a “feature pack”, the Implementation of the SP has to be done with
the SUM/DMO tool. Either the latest Version of SP11 or the SP12 is recommended here.
For details in creation of the needed stack.xml see the SAP First Guidance Document -
SAP First Guidance - SEM/BW Modelling in SolMan 7.1 with MOPZ
For details in the SUM/DMO procedure see the SAP First Guidance Document -
SAP First Guidance - Migration BW on HANA using the DMO option in SUM
2.1.2 From 7.40 SP07 to SP09 or higher See the recommendations from Chapter 2.1.1
Additional Notes to consider:
▪ Note 2086899 - Upgrade Phase MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG creates error messages
▪ Note 2077976 - Table pool deletion incorrectly handled
Before you start the Upgrade with the SUM tool, move the already successful imported SAP Notes with
the transaction SNOTE from “In Process” to the Section “Done”.
SAP First Guidance … Implementation BW-MT for BW-aDSO
June 2018 8
After the technical Upgrade is finished and before you start re-implementing the existing SAP Notes use
the mass functionality in the transaction SPAU to reset all obsolete SAP Notes first.
2.1.3 From 7.40 SP08 (SR2) to SP09 or higher Even that the SP can be applied with the ABAP SPAM transaction, the usage of the SUM tool is
recommended, as the SPAU handling and performance of the runtime is improved compare to the SPAM.
See the recommendations from Chapter 2.1.1
2.1.4 Sequence of the Backend Implementation SP08/09 1. Technical Upgrade to 7.40 SP08/09 as described above
2. Implement “Corrections with high priority” either for SP08 , SP09 or higher
3. Implement SAP Notes for NCUM (Non-Cumulative), HCPR (HANA Composite Provider), WSP (BW
Workspaces) Enhancements and problem solutions, External SAP HANA view, Open ODS view
either for SP08 or SP09
4. Implement the BW-MT SAP Notes either for SP08 , SP09 or higher
5. Implement the BW-aDSO SAP Notes either for SP08, SP09 or higher
6. Test the BW-aDSO scenario with the current BW-MT frontend
2.1.5 From 7.40 SP10 onwards (recommended) Starting with SAP BW 7.40 SP10 which will be released in Q1/2015 makes the described procedure for the
ABAP Backend in Chapter 2.1.4 almost obsolete.
If you want to start with the usage of the advanced DSO and the Query Generation with the BW modeling
tools, this would be the most eruption free option at all.

The BW Modeling Tools for SAP HANA BW (in short: BW Modeling Tools) represents a new modeling IDE
(Integrated Development Environment) build on top of the Eclipse platform.
Its main objective is to support BW model developers in today's increasingly complex BI environments by
offering state-of-the-art modeling tools. These tools include integration with SAP HANA modeling and the
consumption of HANA elements in BW Open ODS Views, Advanced DSOs or CompositeProviders with
powerful UI (user interface) capabilities.

For the usage of the Query Designer of the BW Modeling Tools 1.14 it's required to have SP12 installed on
the SAP BW 7.40 including the latest code corrections mentioned in the 1.14 Release Notes.

the HANA Studio / Eclipse will be closed without any message.
This problem can occur by using the data preview, master data maintenance, or hierarchy maintenance
on 7.50 SP04 (or newer). The problem is solved with a BW-MT version based on Eclipse 4.6 (Neon).
In case you are entering such problems, then please install SAP HANA Studio 2.3.8 (Rev 122) which base
on Eclipse 4.6. You will also need the latest ABAP Development Tools (Version 2.60 or higher).

With SAP BW Modelling tools 1.17, user can create any source system directly from Eclipse based SAP
BW Modelling tools. This is editor is only available for SAP BW/4 HANA system whereas in SAP BW on
HANA system user still need to define source system via traditional SAP GUI interface.
https://blogs.sap.com/2017/10/04/sap-bw-modelling-tools-odp-source-system-editor/
Starting with 1.18 the necessary extension and tools for BPC for BW/4HANA are delivered.
Tree structure for calculated and restricted key figures can be maintained in InfoProvider view
(corresponds to the tx. RSZTREE)
(BW/4HANA 1.0 SP4) A query can be created based on another query where a switch of the InfoProvider
is possible. Furthermore, the new created queries can be created as a link component. A linked
component cannot be changed, but synchronized in case the source query was changed.

Corrections and enhancements
• New editors and features
The new transformation editor, Document Store, Data Transfer Process and Planning Sequence will
be initially shipped with 1.19 and requires BW/4HANA 1.0 (SP8 or higher) on the server side.
It's now also possible to load flat files using the Data Source.
• Query Designer
It's now supported to switch between design time and runtime relevant texts. If you switch in the
preferences to the runtime relevant texts, the texts shown corresponds then to the texts which will be
shown during execution of the query. Please note it's required to apply the backend correction
2564954, otherwise the required text information is not available in the InfoProvider View.
• Query Designer - Data Preview
Starting with 1.19 it's possible to use a native data preview on BW/4HANA 1.0 (minimum SP4) which
is not web-based like the other data previews. For using this data preview it's recommended to apply
the backend correction 2562341 or to install SP8. The intention of the new data preview is to
show quickly the initial runtime state if a query will be executed. Navigation steps are not supported.
The Installation of the BW-MT is now simplified to four components now.

Please Note that with the availability of the SP08 for BW/4 (aka FP01 for BW/4) you must update the BW-
MT to this Version.
With BW/4 SP08 and the current BW- MT 1.19, the Eclipse Development Environment should be almost “feature complete”.
The following SAP Notes are needed for the ABAP Backend together with BW-MT 1.19 are required:
Note 2621676 - Transformation in BW Modeling Tools
Note 2631472 - Korrekturen für Transformationen mit Routinen und Formeln
Note 2639435 - Transformations are opened in SAP GUI instead of in Eclipse
Note 2643781 - BW/4 1.0 SP9: Syntax errors during import of Transformations with formulas

3.2 Tipp’s and Troubleshooting
3.2.1 Backend search RSOSM/RSOS_SEARCH After a fresh Installation of BW on HANA or BW/4HANA, the BW back-end search RSOSM or
RSOS_SEARCH does not return any result. This also applies for System copies as well.
The first step is to adjust the authorization settings for the users, otherwise the activation of the
MetaData and Where-Used Search will fail.
- Technical User (SAP<SID)
- Role User (≠ SAP<SID>
- Actual User (can be activated via “Assign General Privileges”)
See the following SAP Notes:
Note 2362807 - SAP HANA authorizations for BW metadata search/no results in search/input help for
BW modeling tools
Note 2396002 - Unable to open sub InfoAreas in BW eclipse Modelling tools perspective in HANA Studio
after BW support package update or upgrade
Note 2510781 - 740SP18: Queries in Metadata Repository not shown correctly
Note 2537784 - Supplement to SAP Note 2459861 - "BW objects are not displayed in the project explorer"
To make sure that the Metadata search works correctly you must enhance the authorization for the
technical user SAP<SID> (within the SYSTEM schema) and the _SYS_REPO user (within the SAP<SID>
schema.
Check the Metadata search after you recreated the search views with tx. RSOSM
And for SAP BW 7.50 on HANA
Note 2152359 - BW search/value help/search/open object in SAP BW modeling tools returns no result

Click on or , this will re/create the missing search view’s
Sometimes it is necessary after applying SAP Note corrections to regenerate certain of the SAP HANA
Views, e.g. InfoObjects or aDSO Views
Regenerate the search views for the t-logo object IOBJ. To do this, proceed as follows:
1. Open transaction RSOSM.
2. Choose "Configure TLOGO Object" and choose the value "IOBJ" as the t-logo object.
3. Choose the "Configure SAP HANA Views" button.
4. In the "Maintain Metadata View" section, choose the "Deploy" button.
