Dear Parish Families, A few weeks back we welcomed Fr. Rayapa Yeruva for our annual Mission Appeal. I want to take the time to thank all of you for welcoming him and for your generosity to his message. As we hear and welcome our missionaries during this annual appeal, it’s a reminder to us, certainly of our call to be generous in sharing with those less fortunate the blessings that God has given to us. But, beyond giving what we can to help those in need, the mission appeal also serves as a reminder to all of us of our own call to be missionaries. Now, we may never travel to a foreign country to preach the gospel as some missionaries do or stand up in an ambo in a Church as part of a Mission Appeal weekend. But, each and every one of us, is called to be a missionary, someone who is sent out on a mis-sion. The English word Mass comes from the Latin missa which means sent. As we go forth from Mass, we are sent on a mission, we are sent as missionar-ies to our families, our friends, our workplaces, our schools, every place we go throughout the week. You can bring the gospel into places that you go throughout the week in ways that I perhaps can’t. As the missionaries of today, we are called to respond with generous hearts and lives to the call that God places before us. And so I invite each of us to ask ourselves, “How generously am I responding to the gifts that God has given to me?” As Bishop Perez stated in his homily at my Installa-tion Mass, the call is there for all of us to step up and be invested in the life of our parish. Our community is blessed with many gifted and talented people, how might we consider the personal invitation to respond to His call with generous hearts and minds? Is there a ministry or a group here at the parish that we might look into joining and being a part of? Is there a minis-try we might be able to help fulfill at Mass? Is there someone we encounter who we’re being called to reach out to or maybe to forgive? Is there a way that God is inviting us to take the next step with him? I invite all of us during this week to reflect on how we're responding to God’s generous love poured out to us. As we welcome our missionaries, let’s be mis-sionaries too, who respond to God’s invitation with generous love. In Christ’s Love, Fr. John
