FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST SUCCESS!
Thank you to the fathers, grandfathers and ‘significant males’ who came along to our Father’s Day breakfast last Friday morning, despite the weather conditions! The children certainly enjoyed the opportunity to see their loved ones in the playground and
classroom.
Thank you to the staff who helped cook the breakfast and prepare for the event. A special thank you to Rasna Gandhi (CLO) for her
organisation!
Thank you also to McDonald’s Rutherford for their kind donation
of cups and orange bowls for the event.
We hope that the fathers had a great weekend and enjoyed the gifts the children had purchased through the P&C Father’s Day
stall.
We are very fortunate to have a school community that really
supports each other and the school!
Congratulations to the following winners of our raffle!
1st Prize - Slater, 2nd Prize - Narelle, 3rd Prize - Noel,
4th Prize - Zeke, 5th Prize - Gary

SCHOOL SPIRIT
Our school was certainly buzzing last Friday
morning with so many dads, male carers and
grandfathers in the school. Despite the rain, we
were still able to serve over 650 bacon and egg
sandwiches and enjoy some quality time in the school.
According to recent research, there is evidence to suggest that
children whose fathers participate in school activities, school
meetings and events receive higher grades, enjoy school more,
and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities
than children whose fathers don't participate, regardless of the
level of maternal participation. We hope to see the dads back
in the school as much as possible!
A huge thank you to our staff, many of whom were at school on
Friday from 6:30am setting up for the event. A special mention
to Mrs Gandhi, our Community Liaison Officer for all her
planning to ensure a fabulous morning for all.
SPELLING BEE
Good luck to our four Spelling Bee representatives who will
compete at Branxton Public School in Week 10, on Thursday
22nd September. The Stage 2 heat starts at 9:30am and Stage
3 will commence at 12:30pm. The winner of each of the heats
will progress to the live finals in Sydney in Term 4.
ABORIGINAL EDUCATION & REVIEW OF PERSONALISED
LEARNING PLANS (PLPS)
An opportunity to review progress of students who identify as
Aboriginal has been organised for next Monday afternoon in the
library from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
All teachers will be available to meet with families to review the
PLPs and discuss ways to achieve further success at school.
We thank all parents for taking the time to come along next
Monday. Appointments are not necessary and families can
speak to several teachers at the same time with their children.
A barbeque sausage sizzle will be provided.
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY!
Rutherford Public School is keen to hear parent/carer views of
our school and how we can improve the educational

survey may like to fill in the response slip in this newsletter to
go into the draw to win a $200 IGA gift voucher. Please return
the response slip to the office. The draw will take place at the
end of the term.
Thank you for your time!

...Year 6 Transition News…
GROWING TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE!
In considering the transition to high school and adolescence,
we must look to each individual young person and balance their
need for support with the desire for responsibility and
independence. We must equip them with the habits of mind
that foster sound decision-making, a healthy independence and
personal success. Research shows that continuity across
primary and secondary schools makes a significant difference
to personal success.
ENRICHMENT CLASSES
This week marks the last of the enrichment classes offered to
our students by Rutherford Technology High School. Over 60
students have enjoyed their experiences in Science, Visual
Arts, Technology, Music and Film Making.
Thank you to Mrs O’Donnell for accompanying our students to
and from the high school.
STAGE 3 GALA SPORTS DAY
Rutherford Technology High is organising a Gala Sport’s Day
for Friday 16th September (Week 9) at Maitland Park for our
Year 5 and Year 6 students. They will combine with other Year
5 and Year 6 students from our local schools and play a variety
of sports.
The students will travel to and from Maitland Park by bus.
Permission notes went home last Monday and need to be
returned to Rutherford Public School, along with $4 bus fare, by
tomorrow, Tuesday 6th September 2016.

HUNTER REGION ATHLETICS
Well done to our superstar athletes that
competed at the Hunter Region Athletics
Carnival last Friday. Liam Kreymborg made the final in the
13yrs boys 100m, Kanyarat Somphan made the final in the
13yrs girls 100m and Samuel Cutts threw extremely well in the
Junior boys shot put.
These are amazing efforts against the best athletes from over
200 primary schools in the Hunter area. Well done!
HUNTER REGION CRICKET
Good luck to Brayden Lucas and Ava Jankovic who will trial for
positions in the boys and girls Hunter Region cricket teams.
Brayden will trial on Wednesday while Ava will have a crack
next week. They have both done extremely well and have
outplayed dozens of other students to get to this point.
Good luck!
BACKYARD LEAGUE PROGRAM
Monday of this week wraps up the final
instalment of the Backyard League program for
students in Years 3 to 6. During their session,
students will receive a football courtesy of the

wear joggers and bring a drink bottle. The program is free and
is a great initiative of the NRL.
Thank you to the development officers Matt and Pat for all their
hard work.
