40th Session of the IPCC,
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
27-31 October 2014 Copenhagen, Denmark
Fossil fuels should be phased out by 2100 says IPCC
On 2nd November 2014, The IPCC's Synthesis
Report suggests renewables will have to grow
from their current 30% share to 80% of the power
sector by 2050.
In the longer term, the report states that
fossil fuel power generation without carbon
capture and storage (CCS) technology would need
to be "phased out almost entirely by 2100".
- Warming impacts are already being seen
around the globe, in the acidification of the
oceans, the melting of arctic ice and poorer crop
yields in many parts.
- Without concerted action on carbon,
temperatures will increase over the coming
decades and could be almost 5C above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century.

“The United Nations is bringing the world together on energy because
energy is central to our future well-being as a human family,”
2
On 23rd September 2014, over 100 Heads of
State and Government and more than 800 leaders
from business, finance and civil society came
together to announce bold commitments to action
in eight areas which are Agriculture, Cities,
Energy, Financing, Forests, Industry, Resilience
and Transportation that are critical for keeping
global temperature increases to less than two
degrees Celsius.
The propose of the 2014 Climate Summit was
to raise political momentum for a meaningful
universal climate agreement in Paris in 2015 and
to galvanize transformative action in all countries
to reduce emissions and build resilience to the
adverse impacts of climate change.

“At Saudi Aramco, we are committed to powering global
economic development with adequate and affordable energy
as well as a low-carbon future.”
We employ a multi-pronged strategy
that addresses both the production of
petroleum and its consumption:
through an unwavering commitment
to environmental stewardship
beyond mere compliance;
by instilling operational excellence
all along the petroleum value chain;
and, most critically, by leveraging
innovation and technology.

“The scale of the climate challenge
requires bold commitments and bold
action. That is why we are committing
to go 100% renewable or recycle
material for the plastic we use in our
home furnishing products,
building on our 100% goal for renewable
energy, and our goal for 100% of our
cotton and wood to come from more
sustainable sources."
All plastic material used in its home furnishing products
to be 100% renewable and/or recyclable by 2020.
