Working Well With Parents…
1st contact should be a positive & a professional one
Call to share successes,
not just talk about
problems
Be an emphatic & attentive listener
Promptly inform parents once you detect something amiss
Be as specific as possible when
discussing a problem
Promptly return an sms/ phone call
Check if they are
to talk
Ensure proper documentation is in place when a parents calls or when you
call a parent
Record all teleconversations in the
call log
Having beneficial parent conferences…
Present yourself as a friendly teacher with the child’s interest at heart
Create a ‘we’ atmosphere of cooperation &
friendliness
Parents should leave the conference with a sense of satisfaction
Both parties should have mutual
& understanding of each other’s
concern
Ensure a respectful, reciprocal, inclusive , thoughtful and caring
communication
A workable solution to the
problem has been agreed
upon and everyone
involved intends to work together to help the child
Kind words can be short and easy to speak ,but their
echoes are endless.
