Two wards next to each other, of the same number of beds.
One ward using the existing drinking glasses
The other with the new improved drinking glasses.
Water given and was measured on both wards over 9 days
The water being thrown out from the jugs during the handover
period was measured
The amount assumed to be consumed was then calculated

The drawback
Turnover in the wards is great so on an individual level we
could not assume to capture individual data.
However we were able to see the total amount given to patients
over that 9 day period.
