GVI MONTHLY ACHIEVEMENT REPORT Quepos Community Development Program

July 2014 SUMMARY:GVIQueposwelcomesBancroftSchoolandUnder18’sgrouptoconstructclassrooms,repairschools,runartsworkshopsandpaintbeautifulmurals.ThesevolunteerssignificantlycontributedtothemaintenanceofruralschoolsandpreparationforthelocalFestivaloftheArtscompetition.REPORT:Inadditiontoourcurrentlyrunningeducationprojects,inJuly,GVIQueposwasaidedbytwoschoolgroups.WewerefortunatethatagroupfromBancroftSchoolinLondonspenttwoweekswithus.TheyhelpedbuildanentireclassroomatDamasSchoolwheretheeagerstudentscanlearnEnglish.Also,theypaintedabeautifulmuralofapapayatreethathadtobecutdowntobuildtheclassroomonthewallofthelunchroom.Theentireschoolwasabletoparticipatebycreatingtheleavesofthetreeswiththeirhandprints.

ThisartisticgroupalsoledseveralartsworkshopstohelpthechildrendeveloptheirskillsfortheFestivaloftheArtscompetition.Afteraweek,everychildintheschoolhadnewknowledgeaboutdrawing,painting,sculptingandstomp.WhenBancroftSchoolwenthome,anewgroupofUnder18’scametocontinueworkingontheDamasclassroomandpaintattwoadditionalschoolsinNaranjitoandVillaNueva.Theysandeddowndesks,chairs,paintedentirebuildingsandleftanincrediblemuralatVillaNuevafortheKindergartenclassroom.

Ourregularprojectvolunteersalsojoinedinontheeffort.SeveralvolunteershelpedpaintamuralinthenewEnglishClassroomatDamas,andeveryonejoinedintheexcitementoftheFestivaloftheArts.Asasurpriseforthekids,ourentireteamperformedadancetothesongWakaWakabyShakira.Thekidsloveditsomuch,theydemandedanencore!Thesecondtimetheentireschoolwasdancingtogetherwhichledtoamassivedanceparty.
