CTrides: Quarter 3 Marketing Activity Summary
July - September 2017
CTrides developed its entire FY ‘18 event marketing plan during the third quarter of 2017, while continuing to use media to reinforce the Reboot Your Commute campaign that CTrides developed and executed during FY ‘17. A “bridge” media strategy was developed for Q3 that included:
• Billboards along all major thoroughfares in Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, Bridgeport (Stamford did not have inventory)
• Broadcast/Cable • Radio, specifically:
• iHeart Radio CT (over a dozen stations) • Bomba Spanish Language
This plan was different than in years past when no media was placed during the generally quieter Q3 summer months. However, after strategizing, it was decided that there was value during these months, especially in August as people get back into a more regular routine and are in the mindset of changing their behavior. It was concluded that this could be the ideal time to get people to think differently and Reboot Their Commute.
After reviewing FY ‘17, CTrides developed its FY ‘18 event calendar featuring these key marketing campaigns:
• College Month (September) • Kick Off Your Commute (Oct. - Nov.) • March Madness (March) • Transportation Showcase (March) • Earth Week (April) • CTrides Week (May)
CTrides College Month College Month was extremely successful this year with extra focus on participating in orientations and welcome fairs. This focus resulted in increased engagement with students and faculty at Connecticut colleges and universities to discuss the various alternate commute options unique to each location. This extremely targeted marketing campaign featured creative geared toward a younger audience (samples at right). CTrides also executed an employer-targeted communication to inform key faculty at the schools of

College Month.
To leverage the new U-Pass CT launched in August to a number of these institutions, CTrides took the opportunity to create materials branded specifically to U-Pass schools. The launch of the U-Pass was a perfect tie-in to College Month and created an overwhelmingly positive marketing push as we engaged with students. Both generic and College Month branded U-Pass materials were created.
As part of the College Month tracking, four awards were handed out in the following categories:
• Most Trips Tracked: Yale University • Most Pledges: University of New Haven • Most Activities: Norwalk Community
College • Most Engagement: St. Vincent’s College
Final stats for the month are as follows: • Pledges: 691 • Participating Partner Events: 47 • Schools Participated: 23
Trophies were handed to the four major winners with certificates given to the rest of the schools that participated.
Miscellaneous Outside of College Month, CTrides developed and executed new creative for it’s major Q4 campaign, Kick Off Your Commute. Intended to tie into football season, this provided a creative platform to retarget people who may have already experienced previous mode-change messaging.
CTrides was also featured on iHeart Radio’s Community Connections, a public service show airing on Sundays. This was a value-add interview as part of the aforementioned media purchase.
CTrides also secured additional promotional items for Q3 and Q4 to aid in outreach efforts. efforts, as well as executed a number of specific event related items tied into Try-It events being carried out by the outreach team connected directly to a shift in commuting habits.

Partner Activity
CTrides added 7 new partners this quarter:
• Waste Management • United Bank • Porter & Chester (Branford) • University of Saint Joseph - School of Pharmacy • Asnuntuck Community College • Connecticut Mental Health Center • St. Vincent’s College
Total number of CTrides employer participants, stakeholders and communi-ty participants is now 239.
The team also recognized its Partners of the Month for their commitment in offering employees various commuter benefits.
• United Bank—With a planned office move from Glastonbury to Down-town Hartford, UB dedicated efforts to shift employees toward mass transit and carpooling to ease the location transition. UB held multiple informational and educational events at both Glastonbury offices to inform their employees about alternate commuting methods prior to the move, and they offered the Commuter Tax Benefit to encourage employees to change their commute
• St. Vincent’s College - This new university partner recognized the need to have students, staff and faculty embrace transportation options. Increased communications and events targeted to put a focus on in-creased transit usage and carpooling included presentation/outreach event for New Student Orientation; College Month Participation and winner for most engaged organization; and a Try-It day Outreach in part-nership with CTrides and Greater Bridgeport Trans-it with incentive of a free day of transit passes.
The CTrides Outreach Team held 194 Worksite Meetings and 114 Commuter Events with our worksite partners during Q3. The total number of employer partici-pants, stakeholders and community par-ticipants rose to 239.
This quarter’s worksite activity, segment-ed by region, can be found on the follow-ing pages. A complete list of program or-ganizations/stakeholders is in Appendix A.

Telework Marketing & Activities
The main focus of CTrides Telework for 2017 Q3 involved analyzing data obtained from a survey executed during Q2 and using that survey input to develop and execute a focus group. The purpose of these activities is to gain valuable insights into how teleworking has evolved over time, which will subsequently allow CTrides to market the program in a more targeted, and effective manner.
Through a collaborative effort with the Connecticut Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the CTrides’ database, there were 104 survey respondents (results seen above). Some of the key data gained from the survey included: 1) a nearly 50/50 split in regards to which companies offered a telework program and which did not. 2) most of the respondents (80%) were not aware of the services provided by the Connecticut Department of Transportation through the CTrides Telework program. These findings will be leveraged to better understand our market reach and breadth.
Following this initial analysis, 14 of the respondents volunteered to take part in the focus group. Connecticut-based GreatBlue Research was brought on board to help facilitate the focus group. First, the goal was established - to determine the telework needs of Connecticut organizations and how CTrides can better assist with those needs. The target participant was then established - C-Suite Level employees or Human Resource Managers who are involved in implementing or facilitating telework programs. Recruiting efforts yielded 12 ideal candidates, from a variety of backgrounds, to participate in the focus group. All participants were involved in their specific organizations’ telework programs, or acting as a consultant within HR departments to establish/refine telework programs. CTrides, in conjunction with consultants from GreatBlue developed a question guide best suited to capture relevant information.
Miscellaneous
CTrides also met with the president and leadership team of PEZ Candy Inc. (Orange, CT) as they are exploring the option of implementing a new telework program. CTrides provided the group with sample policies and procedures that would be relevant to their issues/needs. Additionally, CTrides met with ExecuNet (Norwalk, CT) who is looking to develop telework policies. State Education Resource Center (SERC), an organization that CTrides works with on a consistent basis, also met with CTrides for guidance on policy development and ongoing HR consultation.

CTrides Ridematching & Rewards Program
CTrides added 1,648 new members to the Ridematch & Rewards program in the third quarter of 2017.
The increase in membership reflects the results of focused marketing and outreach efforts, as well as a number of raffles, sponsored and administered through the program vendor NuRide. The major third quarter raffles included The Coolest Cooler, Apple TV, and Xbox One. CTrides featured these prominently on the website and social channels, which resulted in these being the most redeemed rewards of the quarter. The majority of raffle winners came from organizations working with CTrides including Travelers, The Hartford, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, Purdue Pharma and the Connecticut Department of Education.
Fourth quarter planning includes the rollout of the “white label” branding of the webpage and app. Currently branded as NuRide, the plan is to extend the CTrides brand for closer association of the Ridematching and rewards. A draft version of the app and website design have been developed to coincide with CTrides branding and remove the third-party confusion.
Additional features and updates are detailed below: v 9.7.1 through v 9.9.0 (iOS v 1.7.1 - v 1.9.0):
• New organizational challenge event module for iOS and web allows for the quick creation of special events tied into any of the Ridematch & Reward features; CTrides will use for CTrides Week in May
• Enabled Under Armour Trip syncing; Strava syncing • Aggressively developing Android app for Q4 release in order to allow ALL users to download (losing about
half of users by only having iOS app available) • Recurring trips now OPT-IN, so any inactive users with recurring trips setup will have to agree to continue
tracking trips; this will allow for even closer data accuracy • System now records carpool trips that members “forgot” to track
